Can be done on stock cooler... big time increase in performance... hot spot is set to 115c limit.

Gotta feel it with your finger at load to know.. I'm 100% sure its going to scorch your finger at load... at full load is smoking hot.

I would buy a 32 awg sheet of copper on ebay for $7 cut out the pieces to cover the holes & add a pad on top so it contacts the copper... while the copper is adhered thermally to the rest of the assembly... cut the Hotspot down to 50C at full tilt, 32C idle. The card is designed to be the most powerful & efficient GPU Ever Made.

Just gotta do the above modifications. Traders knew it would be a breakthrough & crippled it right before release.

Could buy a Copper Backplate too... $10 4" X 12" 24 AWG Copper.. Cut to size with tin snips & tap holes and add pads to seperate from the pcb yet thermally conduct to the backplate... Pad back of CORE & ACROSS VRMs & If you have the material... the whole PCB.

Those left 2 chokes don't even get hot. They don't even need thermal pads and don't even touch the waterblock or blower cooler. They don't go over 40°C after gaming for hours on end.

Even the top 3 chokes don't get hot. They go up to around 40°C and stay there. I measured it with a laser thermometer, which is accurate and can measure up to 250°C.

You're seeing things that aren't there.

Yea, kinda realised a while later that those would actually be large ceramic caps, particularly because down-volt VRMs shouldn't need diodes...

Those holes you highlighted exist purely to prevent contact obstruction, best you lay off the pot mate.
Also if you continue these posts I might as well just report them, for once...

Also, just an fyi for the 'hotspot' temps, they most likely seem VRM related as I only get about a 25C delta to the water using 1mm 8W/MK pads, thermalgrizzly as I mentioned before. Just to clarify as well I use their aeronaut paste for the core and HBM (spread generously across the whole surface) which gives a delta of around 10C.

water temp was about 35C, ran the test for about 13 minutes and the temps had stabilised, turbo mode.

The 3 between the GPU and the display outputs? yea, those are for the displayports I'm pretty sure as they each need a regulated 1.1V supply last I checked, would only get moderately hot if you had a 5kHDR monitor attached to each via 3-5m cables...

Meant the ones in the pic where he put arrows next to above the chip on the side of the GPU. Where those holes are in the ref cooler.

But yeah also the ones you mentioned.

Doubt he's smoking pot, he's on crack biggrin.gif.

I'm in the same boat that hotspot must be vrm Temps. they are acting exactly the same as vrm temps did on my 290 where the temps drastically increase from higher vcore.

Nonetheless in a few days I am going to add a pwm fan to the GPU fan header pointed at the air-cooled portion of my waterblock that covers the rest of the board and I should quickly be able to verify. If temps decrease with a fan then it's definitely not a temp coming from the die.

Hilarious. If money were not an issue I would show you, that I know exactly what I'm talking about. I know exactly the results, after doing this. Greater than water cooling performance with the stock blower.
Anyone with stability issues on 17.9.1? 17.8.1 was installed when the card was which had similar issues, hard lock-like. I've read that the release drivers are the most stable, 17.7.1.

It's reminiscent of a bad system memory overclock which may be the case for me.

Might as well throw up a TS run I did with at +50% and 1050 hbm.

Better than watercooling? Lol, now I'm certain you must be tripping.

17.9.2 Driver for Vega is supposed to be released later today evidently. CROSSFIRE support finally enabled biggrin.gif Checked the driver page but no signs of it yet.
