I Noticed there has been a lot of talk about Vega clocks and benchmarks. I am currently playing around with mine, i am of course no expert so hopefully we will get a few of them around to help out.
Some quick testing i did on my air cooled Vega FE to try to stop clock throttling but i am using mine in gaming which is a bit underwhelming right now in performance
mad.gif

my gpuz shot for now

Wanted to add something ive noticed while testing my Vega FE. The load/ TACH LED's on the gpu do not seem to match the load gpu usage in say MSI AB.
I guess what i mean is with stock settings for example in wattman, the clocks throttle a LOT. And so MSI AB will show 99/100% gpu usage but i guess thats dependent on the current clock speed load. The Tach LEDs actually show anywhere from 1 to 3 LED's not lit or blinking. I have got used to the TACH LED's since FuryX. They have been a great source for me to know when the load is full or not. Even though MSI AB shows 100% gpu usage, the TECH LED's do not if the clocks are down from 1600. So lets say at 1440 clock @ full load ther eis usually one LED or even two not lit. sometimes ive seen 2 blank, and 3rd blinking. I guess i need to do more testing, but i can definitely see where this thing needs water cooling like Furyx did. In fact i may end up getting universal blocks for Vega FE IF they can improve it with drivers.

It's this or the 1080. I'm assuming rx vega will be priced under 1080 no matter performance?
I'm still subscribing to the "bad drivers" theory. But not because that was the expectation.

A few benchmarks I've seen basically make Vega FE a Fury X with higher clocks. Which makes no sense, as its a ~500mm^2 14nm die... A die shrunk Fiji on this node would be like 350 mm^2, so where the heck did that extra transistor budget go? That can't all be FP16.

Anyone running into throttling+shutdown when switching to gaming mode and running an intensive game?

I had that happen consistently but I found restoring default settings plus a system restart sorted the issue.

I thought the PSU was crapping out at first but nope, it appears to be a software issue.

Edit: Seems like changing any settings within WattMan causes erratic behavior even if it's just upping the fan speed. Anyone else running into this?

4.8 -> Collatz, Einstein, Milkyway (Collatz had optimized Fury Settings in xml, the other two were stock)
interesting, good amount of work into that.

Haven't had that but these drivers are very buggy for me. I am having issues from proper edid recognition and resolutions allowed, to eyefinity being unusable almost. wattman giving wierd numbers, and unable to change/save fan curve until after reboot

I have a feeling these drivers were rushed, so i am hoping next ones or even when rx vega is out that they get them way better and of course performance up as well.

EDIT: i am having some bugs with eyefinity, that i had exactly with fiji when it first released. strange

Maybe it's just the Pro drivers. The pro drivers are respectable relative to Quadros, let alone Geforce cards.

I would have expected something along those lines since the RX 480 based Radeon Pro WX 7100 is getting 180FPS ; Radeon Pro WX 5100 (RX 470D based) gets ~ 160FPS.

It would be interesting to test FP16 performance.

If you're running 2 WUs at a time on Einstein then the result is semi-respectable (looks to be 1.5Million a day? which would be better than 2 x RX 480 putting out ~ 1.3M/day).

Milkyway likely isn't worth it since VEGA doesn't have impressive FP64 performance.

The gaming variant has a high bar of performance to meet (greater than 2 x RX 470 or 2 x RX480).

Don't shoot me but i have 2 Vega FE's here in my rig. However these drivers are terrible, and performance is lacking in gaming/benches. I can't get eyefinity working properly in many configurations. Rx Vega is around the corner so if your even considering Vega best to wait and see what happens.

I was comparing directly with PCPER

my bone stock gpu results:
i get anywhere from 242-251fps.

Is it down to CPU clocks maybe? i think his 5960x was stock, mine is 4.5ghz

This looks allright I think! Are you running stock?

So the 1070 and 1080, overclock get between 650-700k PPD on this project 10496 that you did.
1080Ti overclocked is about 1mill PPD

Autocad needs work

...

AMD has a lot of work to do. Right now it just exists, but isn't competitive in gaming and in other things besides Solidworks 2015 (2017 is out now).

Who cares about games, this is not a RX card, it is an FE card designated to show the potential of future pro versions.
The pro result are astonishing for the aircooled one price. It is highly competitive on all the professionals task but gaming.

I corrected your sentence for you, it should be better now! Please do not mistake again, or bring something that show it is not competitive for computing!
Without sandbagging obviously!

Some hard voltmod by buildz
Finally an amd advert that target the user of that card. A bit late i would say unfortunately, ! I love the song, and the unreal logo! ^^

Ouch, hard voltmod. I prefer soft ones.
