Acer XB270HU flickering on and off, GTX 980 Ti

Hello, my monitor has been randomly flickering on and off intermittently (usually 5-10x in one bout), and I can sometimes hear the Windows sound for hardware being unplugged and then plugged in (it wakes the monitor when the computer is idle). I thought this was possibly a cable issue, so I just bought a new displayport cable, DP 1.2 Accell. Now that I use this new cable, the problem has been much worse and makes the computer unusable. I am running the latest Nvidia drivers.

In Event Viewer I see sometimes this: A caller specified the SDC_FORCE_MODE_ENUMERATION flag in a call to the SetDisplayConfig() API

Has anyone encountered this problem? My monitor is under warranty still since I got it 2 yrs ago and it has 3 yr warranty

edit: also, when these flickers happen (now the frequency is ~1x per minute), the power light sometimes goes from blue (on) to orange (sleep)

This is somewhat similar to an issue that I have, but when my monitor turns off and back on it's very fast and only once - and I also sometimes get the Hardware Disconnect/Hardware Connect sound with it, but not always. My issue is created by electrostatic electricity that I am creating on my chair mat which is on high-pile carpet. My chair has plastic wheels that don't work very well and so there's too much sliding going on. It's much worse in the winter for me due to the extreme lack of moisture in the air.

So I'm curious: does this seem to only happen when you are moving?

No, I've read that it could possibly be due to electrical interference, but it's definitely nothing to do with static (wood floors)

BTW I unplugged and replugged the power cable into my surge protector and that definitely helped the problem (maybe due to power outages in the past couple days / thunderstorms), but the issue still happens sometimes, just less frequently

My monitor does it maybe once or twice a day and only one or two flickers at the time. I'm more suspicious of nVidias drivers tbh and the card clocking down too low. I say this as it doesn't happen when the display is set to 144hz (which forces the card into a higher clock state). I'm usually running at 120hz however to limit heat/noise at desktop.
