I'd like to introduce myself, I'm a race car builder and general mechanical !
I wanted to build myself a new gaming computer and try to bring as much performance i can out of it like I do on my own & customer race car
I'd like to learn how to work with overclocking and gather much information as i can about it and make it stable for extreme gaming when race car season is off !
After a couple of week on reading over the best gaming products available at some cost. I ended up with this computer
Samsung 960 EVO NvM2 250gb
Samsung 850 EVO SSD 500gb
I'd like advice on my setup and if someone is willing to help me about what and where to search in this forum to gather information I need, I'd appreciate it !
I'll look also into water cooling my Aorus GTX 1080 when I have funds available
May I suggest investing in an AIO with a copper radiator and a stronger stock pump. That way, you can add it to your loop when you buy a block for your GPU instead of just throwing it away. Like these, for example:
I have 2 x Toyota Mark II JZX90 with 1JZ Engine ! One of my lastest build was a Nissan Silvia S15 with a DART LS7 Based 466 V8 Engine
About the cooling for the rig
I read about EK cooling and might as well read about AIO as well since you mentioned it
For the NVMe Drive, I went with that small to use it only as OS Drive and applications. I loaded my 500gb SSD way too fast and had not much money left after buying all this rig, lol
Crazy. Most HP I've ever had under my foot is ~500, and not for long, can't even imagine driving those.
Thing about the H115 you picked is that it isn't very expandable. Even if you could disconnect the tubes (which you can't do easily), the radiator in it is aluminum (while GPU water blocks tend to be copper), which means you would need to use a glycol-heavy mix with anticorrosives in your loop to prevent corrosion.
But probably you know all that since you work on engines.
Hence, a CM Glacer or one of those Swiftech AIOs from the link would give you more options/save money in the future. Instead having to buy a bunch of components and toss your H115, you could just buy the waterblock, a bit of tubing and some fittings and add the GPU straight to the loop when you're ready.
Also, not sure if you saw my ninja edit, but faster memory is definitely worth the few extra bucks. Especially now, when DDR4 prices are slowly climbing.
Most of my setup were around 500hp also, but the S15 with V8 466 DART engine is a monster, 800whp on the pedal and about 650wtq. Natural aspirated engine only..no boost !
About the H115i, It was the best cooling available at the store when I bought the complet rigs. I wanted to have everything at the same time. I'll sell it later when I want to upgrade the GPU cooling and get something like you said so I can customize it as well.
About the memory, I readed about compatibility and went with that since it was listed on their website. I guess with the lastest BIOS update, I'll be able to get some 3000Mhz or 3200Mhz I guess?
I might have not used the proper word to say I wanted advice on my setup !
I wanted to know if I did a good choice out of my reading
Most of time I wrote "Best gaming motherboard" on google and did this with all the parts of a computer, then went to computer store and asked those parts, lol.
I'll look into these forums
Thanks for your answer !
