Asus R5E10 1st pcie slot not detecting GPU

Hi guys, I ve got a R5E10 mobo with an i7 6850k and a m2 SSD. My sli consists in 2 gigabyte 1080 xtreme. I played with this config air cooled for almost a year and yet I just finished watercooling everything ( build log "lord inquisitor" on the forum).

I started the system today (first time wtercooled) and I faced this issue:

My 2 gpus are in slots 1 and 3 but only the card in the 3rd slot is detected. The pcie leds near the pcie switches are all blinking when I start the system except the slot 1 led. It's like if this slot was disabled. I tried switching power cables from the working gpu and I'm sure the card is right inserted in the slot. Loaded default settings in bios and cleared the Cmos. I can enter windows but display will run on my 3rd card. The sli bridge doesn't light up when starting the system. If I unplug the power cables of the first card 2 leds light up on it to tell that it isn't powered so I guess the pcie slot isn't broken. Sli cfx switch is on 2x. I did not move a single switch on the mb.

Does someone have an idea ?

Gotta say that is one sweet build.
Try disabling the 3rd slot card and just run the the display with the first slot card without the power cable connected and also ensure you reset the bios before trying this, and it should display saying "please install power cable" or something like that and also remove the sli bridge.
the problem is, seen as though this is watercooled there is no indication on the gpu that it is turning on correctly, unless maybe theres some sort of led. Also im pretty sure the motherboard would pick up the gcard if you run it with the third slot disabled and display a QR code

its possible to bend the cpu pins by fastening the heatsink too tightly but i doubt you did that as i don't think it would boot at all if you did

Hi guys,

I tried to boot with everything unpluged and display cable on gpu1 in slot 1 and nothing is happening plus if I go in the bios (while having everything plugged in gpu 2 in slot 3) the bios says that there's only the slot 3 being populated. Some more ideas? I would like to avoid switching everything for test purpose but will do in last resort...

Hi.
Just looked it up your cards are in the correct slots 1 and 3.
I think it can be a few things.
Or you spilled some water on one of the cards and its still there shorting the sli port (should be protected just dry it up).
Or one of your sli ports is damaged in some kind of way, you can try another sli connector.
You had it already running so i don`t think it has something to do with your psu or cpu as it boots with one card.
Good luck.

Yeah anyway I'm currently draining the loop to test everything in different slots and see if the mobo or the gpu is faulty... but what do you mean by pcie slot disabled in the bios? I spent a few hours searching and didn't find anything. Btw this will be a pain the ass if I have to Rma those watercooled parts :-(

Hi guys,

some updates on the problem. So I drained my loop and tested the gpus. This is the gpu 1 that died. I seated gpu 3 in slot 1 and everything worked fine even the led of the first pcie slot. I'm pretty happy that the mb is not the problem because it would be definitely harder to unmount everything. I wonder how it died because I have been really careful removing stock coolers and installing water block like if these gpus were my own children. I guess it's bad luck. I'll try to unmount the water block and see if there something I can do to save the gpu. If not I'll reinstall stock coolers and get rma. Thanks for your interest for this thread.

Hope for you it is something like that.
I carefully inspected the card after putting it apart and there is no water drops or fried chip on it. I painted the backplate in black so I'll see if I can RMA or not. One way or another I'll get a new one
