Before this kit I was fine at 4.6 @ 1.2vcore. Is this normal to require such a vcore increase between kits?
These temps are pushing me close overheating levels on both the package(101c) and VRM (103c)

EDIT: So I added a 120mm fan over the VRM and temps are now at 77c
I am seeing two different "CPU Package" readings. One peaked at 96c and the other still at 101c

this platform is confusing as hell
Overclocking on this platform is just the same as any other intel platform.
Hence you overvolting cpu = unstable system. As i told you before. Overvolting cpu voltage can mask other instabilities just to pass a certain test. That doesnt make the system stable. Ram speed on x299 doesnt influence cpu voltage.

I just rolled back to 0702 and it's working fine, on 0802 it won't unless setting the speed manually.

@aDyerSituation I also noticed you need more voltage with 0802, for my 4.6Ghz I could get away with 1.191v, but now I need the 1.2v...
All my grief started happening the moment I flashed 0802.
Cache downclocking was working on all bios with cstates enabled , asus multicore enchancement disable.
Default is 24. Asus multicore enchancement 27.

Technically dont look at it as grief. But with the new bios optimization for improved performance just showed how unstable your system actually is.

Max I saw was 2006 at 4.6Ghz, but that was a unstable overclock and didn't pass Realbench.

I'm back on 0702 and my overclock is more stable with less voltages.

Yeah you could look at it that way seeing the cache downclocking was working on 0702 and since rolling back to 0702 just now it's working again with the exact same C-State settings as 0802.

Not to mention the overclock is stable again.
It's like saying when 0503 came out it show instability in our ram, where in fact it was Asus who "tweak" ram timings that wasn't compatible with everyone's ram kits, a beta bios was release to fix it.

Don't get me wrong man, I respect your expertise, but something is off with 0802, like it was with 0503.

how are you reading vccin on these boards? My VID is my vcore and my vcore is just stuck at .984 in cpu-z,hwinfo and hwmonitor.

Am I blind?

Asus didnt do much ram tweaking dude since 0503.

I am trying my best to point the right direction to you guys but you are blaming a bios optimization that just made your cpu bsod earlier. Thats all

0802. From my brief test.
1. Manual + SVID now working. Before couldnt work.
2. Read/write increase on nvme. ( didnt have a chance to tesr ssd raid 0)

Theres so much assumptions borrowed from ring bus ..with ppl still using it on x299 when its not valid. U see it plenty especially in ram stability threads etc etc. Do not use xmp on this platform as the settings are so laxed because it is to accomadate ring bus cpus.

Yeah, my plan is set to balanced right now. I'll try high performance and reboot and see what happens.

edit: that fixed it for now, but it may not have been the power plan that did it. setting it to high perf without a reboot most certainly didn't resolve the issue.

Sometimes it gets resolved after shutting down, cutting all power to the system. but after keeping my computer shut off for a while and booting back up I suddenly see it again! and I don't have a really consistent way to reproduce this issue. I'll post here if it occurs again, this is something for the engineers to look into.

Ok, I have started from scratch, BIOS Flashback 0802, no XMP, ram timings, speed and voltages set manually.
4.6Ghz overclock set, 2.7Ghz set manually on the mesh (downclocking now, still not on Auto).

I will try again, I'll laugh if it's been my ram's XMP the whole time causing the instabilities thought biggrin.gif
