Recently picked this board up at a goodwill. It appears to be brand new in the box, as it still has plastic on the board and the all accessories are still sealed. I'm new to all this and was wondering why this seems to be a sought after board from what I've read. Is it still relevant today, would it be worth using in a build?
Nice find! It could be for a very high-end legacy build. All you have to do now is find good memory and a good CPU, video card and a good power supply. Well, of course you'll also need a computer case and fans and good CPU cooling for overclocking.
Really cool old motherboard, check out the link in my signature for the 775/771 mod. You can drop an X3370/X3380 into this board and have the most powerful 775 system you can possibly build.

It so happens, I found it on the street a month ago - a hobo was carrying it to sell as junk
!
He was pretty happy when I offered him some money on the spot; It was in a pretty worn shape: the case was dusty and dented, no PSU, no RAM, no cooler, but the MB was still intact and a CPU in, and the original soundcard;
When I cleaned it a little at home, it had a miracle - a QX6800 Quad Core still intact in the socket; Sure thing, I connected the MB to a PSU and fired it up, yay, the lights went up, and since there was no RAM, the speaker only sounded alarm code for missing RAM;
Hope I can save up for the RAM soon and test if it's working properly, it RAM, cooler, videocard so that it POST;
What do you think, guys? Can I make it restoration project? Initially wanna spend as little money as possible to see if it works, and later decide on improvements!
There is a challenge, this bothers me alot now: there's controversial info whether one could make this board run 4x4 memeory, so my challenge is to put 4x4GB kingstn furyX 1866 ddr3 on it if it's possible;

One thing I dont get is why X3380 skyrockets to price of $117? why bother if we can make miracles with the lesser CPU?!
attention OP: i will gladly join you in this build, because i wanna revive that old mobo very much, maybe we can talk about it, help each other out, and with help of some senior forum veterans..
I love this board. I killed one a few years ago and almost cried. 1.7+V on the NB will do that lol. It was underwater though. It is going to get framed and go in the office at some point. Very nice find
Awesome find! I recently picked up an XFX 780i SLI board almost on accident. I was buying an old (think first edition) Antec 900 off a guy from craigslist and he threw in a BUNCH of older parts he wasn't using for free. I happily paid him and brought it home, expecting to find a q6600, but to my surprise it had a QX6850! It even had 3 2gig sticks of ddr2 in it, so the first thing i did was buy the final 2gig stick. I've messed around with it a bit, but I haven't quite gotten around to overclocking it yet. I'm not sure if the Zalman CNPS9700 NT is still up to cooling the best, but I'll find out soon. I personally have a Z170 rig but there's always something fun about messing around with older hardware. Let us know if you build a system with it!
