Building a new PC and I'm wondering if there are any decent psus in the 50-60 range. Will be running a 1070 in the future. I'm doing a piece by piece

Just wondering what's up with these new refresh CX series.

I can't do rebates I just don't have enough cash. 60 max shipped.

I don't know anything about them, but I wonder if shilka does.

I learned from shilka though that the new EVGA B3 units should be a very safe purchase. Except, it's 1¢ below your maximum budget at $59.99 shipped.

The old CX series uses the CWT DSA II and DSA III platforms which use the old group regulation scheme
The newer CX series on the other hand are DC-DC so voltage regulation is far better

As for the B3 its some sort of downgraded variant of the Super Flower Leadex.

Unlike a GPU a PSU can last you 10 years for multiple PCs, don't cheap out and get a decent one, they can be bought around $60-90 Gold eff.
I would not touch those Corsair CX, VS, etc. lowest tier PSUs. Start with RMx or SF when it comes to Corsair.

Corsair 550 RMx

Newegg $89.99 -$30.00 +FREE s/h In stock $59.99

There are older PSUs from SeaSonic etc. in the sub $60 range, they are usable for sure.

That's a steal for RM550x, here it costs double.

There is nothing wrong with the new CX series if you are on a budget or if have a lower end PC
Having standards is fine but at the same time there is no need to be snob because of a name or because you think something is not very good.

Quiet an ignorant opinion without giving a reason as to why they are terrible. My 5 year old CX 500, CX 430, and CX 600M say hello

While they may not be the best for competitive overclocking, etc. they are far from the lowest tier, and make an excellent and reliable choice for the budget builder.

The new CX maybe acceptable, the older, no thanks and do you know what the seller will sell you? New revision or old one? Prepare to get confused as the names are same. Seen enough issues with CX CXM VS low tier Corsair PSUs, some have even 1 in 20 return RMA rate, overall double the RMA rate compared to more decent PSUs. Do they work, sure, do they work well? Depends what you call well.
If $59.99 for a good gold PSU is too much... probably shouldn't be building a PC in the first place and save more first. $59.99 for Corsair 550 RMx is a steal.

Ther old CX are rated for 430/500 and 600 watts while the new ones are rated for 450/550 and 650 watts so no they are NOT called the same
Besides the wattage difference the stickers are also way different with the old ones being green and white and the new ones being grey and black

The next difference is in the color of the cables as the old CX has colored cables and the new CX has all black cables

Its very difficult to confuse the two with a both a sticker color and wattage difference
Almost no seller is every going to mix the old and newer CX series up

Edit: As for the old CX i agree they are indeed mediocre and are NOT worth buying these days with so many options being just as cheap and way better
Both the new CX series and the EVGA SuperNova B3 are much better

The CX550 is actually cheaper then the older CX500 if you use rebates

JackCY so your saying because my fiances are not as good as yours that I'm not entitled to own a PC because I can't afford the best parts so it's not worth even trying.

I'm sorry man but my life has been a mess lately after I got laid off. We got evicted from our home, lost my vehicle, lost everything we owned due to having to sell everything. Depression, suicide attempt, now on medication and getting life back together.

I want my PC back and yes finances are not the best but I'm doing what I can to try and NOT skimp on parts.

Anyways a friend gave me a seasonic S12ii 520 bronze brand new for 35. I currently have a 2500k and I needed a case so I used the rest of the money to buy a case. Still have a few more parts to buy to get her running but I'm getting excited day by day knowing I'll soon have a PC again then I can save for a beast late down the road

Right on, 4LC4PON3. I'm glad you're all set and yes it pisses me off that you had to say all that. I'm getting tired of such posts that cut people down because they don't have much money. Look guys, if all you're going to do is cut someone down, then don't even bother trying to help. When someone says things like "I can't do rebates I just don't have enough cash. 60 max shipped.", don't be rude by cutting the person down for being strapped for cash. Good god. That makes you out to be a complete jerk. Instead, just say, "Ok cool, I can help you select a PSU in that budget."

In other words, don't judge. Help. If you're going to judge, then don't even bother posting.

Like I said, a good quality-made 550W PSU would be more than enough. The power consumption will be so low that you could power your system with the 360W SeaSonic G Series, however due to the way pricing is in the PSU market, I won't recommend anything but 550W and above.

Is that more because the 400w ranged ones we see out there sometimes don't come modular or with very high 80 plus ratings and such? And they only cost a little less than the 550w range? It's rather odd marketing, but I guess they want to set a base line and squish most buyers into the middle tiers, eh? Make people feel like they are paying for more value at the middle tiers by pricing up the bottom tiers?

It's as I said: it's due to pricing. You can sometimes find some good 450W PSUs to cost the same as or more than some good 550W PSUs or even 650W PSUs, and that's just because there's much more demand for 550W+ PSUs. The same goes for just about anything.
