That may be the case, I didn't look at the prices yesterday. But if the only way they are selling the cards is in the pack now, at a $100 markup, the result is the same. I do find it notable that there aren't any $499 cards listed at all, even sold out.

it may be a crappy cooler but I'm so pleased with my gtx 1080 purchase a few months ago for 409.99 on newegg/ebay. same card right now is at 510+

Looks like the packs are stopping the gamers rather than the miners - exact opposite of what it was supposed to do. I did an Auto-Notify on the last card only listed (MSI at $499). Checked back a few hours later and it was listed as sold out, a few hours later and it wasn't listed any more. I didn't get one yet. I'm not buying one of the packs. I'll watch and try to grab one for $499 for a week or two. If I don't get one, I'll start looking at new and used 1080 Ti.

The price drop that 1080 had after 1080 Ti came got deleted after the mining craze.

Well that's not really true. The official 1080 price drop was never in the low $400 range, that would have put the 1080 at a lower price than the 1070. Until the price of 1080's get back to $700 or more, the price drop hasn't been deleted.

Do you think Nvidia will release a GTX 1080ti replacement anytime soon. I really want to switch to 4k@60Hz i heard 1080ti almost does it but not quite. Now with AMD providing competition to 1080 do you guys think there will be a reason for Nvidia to improve their flagship card anytime soon

Realistic expectations of Volta are mid 2018. Assuming the same trend as this gen, add 10 months to that for the new Ti.

Not for a while 1440p is the sweetspot especially with an over 60hz monitor. Probably the next generations will be a bit more convincing for 4k.

I have had 1440p since 2011. 1440p is so 2013. Its not about the PPI and 4K for me. Its about playing games at 40" 4K. I just cant play some games anymore on smaller PC screens. Playing games like Witcher 3 on 40" 4K screen 2 feet away its the most amazing thing ever. The detail you see because eveything looks bigger without losing detail thanks to 4K.

For me the sweet spot for gaming is 1440 p, and there's hardware around that can drive the resolution without it looking like a slideshow.

Note.
I do play lots of FPS games, if I played more RTS games perhaps a 4K monitor would work with current hardware.
