Ouch if this is true!

Okay, so something huge just crawled out of Overclockers UK forums. According to OC UK's Gibbo (via OC3D), AMD's launch MSRP of $399 and $499 for the RX Vega 56 and 64 respectively, were only "introductory offers" and an "early adopter" discount by the company.

Considering the fact that no one was told of this fact beforehand and that all reviews went live assuming the stated 'introductory' MSRPs were permanent, this is an incredibly upsetting news. We have reached out to AMD for comment and will update the article as soon as we get a reply.

If this turns out to be true, AMD seems to be coming dirtier and dirtier by the day.

Agreed. Seems like a sneaky way to create misleading reviews to praise the "value" argument. A lot of people support AMD because they're sick of the stuff Nvidia manages to get away with. At this rate, they'll lose the support of those people (which is more than half of their consumer gaming market?).

And I used to think I was going to regret my 1080 Ti. With all the info coming up, I'm starting to think it was a better purchase than I dared to hope when I threw my money at nGreedia

(And no worries, I'm certain I'll still regret it at some point - when start cripping drivers on the Volta release for example

I am not so sure. Those types almost have a cult mentality for AMD products. I am sure they will be here soon to justify why it is okay if AMD does this and Nvidia is still more evil.

Woops. I originally joined team AMD thinking it was the smart team - and now you're telling me they're all just fanboys with a different color? /s

Nha, you're right. I've been warning for this for months in all the VegaRave-threads. Everybody laughed. Now I laugh at their tears

Below is a quote from Overclockers UK's Gibbo, who reported that AMD's £449.99 price tag for their RX Vega 64 was "launch only" pricing. This price only applied to the retailer's initial allotment of RX Vega 64 Black standalone GPUs, with AMD giving gamers a £100 discount as some form of an "early adopter" discount.
Quote:
Now the good and bad news, the good news is AMD are rebating early launch sales to allow us to hit £449.99 on the stand alone black card which has no games. This is a launch only price which AMD at present are saying will be withdrawn in the near future, when if it happens is unknown, but remember do not be shocked if the price jumps nearly £100 in a few days.

This time round there is no early adopter tax, quite the opposite on the stand alone black card, so do be quick.

We've also made some bundles as well, these bundles feature NO DISCOUNT, what you get is two AAA titles known as Prey and yet to be released Wolfenstein II PC games, worth a solid £50 between them. Well I lie, they include the Black Card which has £100 discount up front, so by buying the bundles you get the black card at the launch discounted price, but also score the two free games. This is also same case for the Samsung & VEGA monitor bundle, it includes the black pre-discounted card, but also scores you the two free games.
AMD's "discounted" RX Vega GPUs sold out within minutes, which means that AMD's RX Vega 64 now has an effective MSRP of £549.99, which is a price increase of over 20%. While gamers will now get copies of Wolfenstein II and Prey for free with their GPU, this by no means makes up for the GPU's £100 price increase.

What is more startling is that OC3D was never told that AMD's standalone RX Vega 64 Black (Reference) GPU would only be priced at £449.99 temporarily, a factor that would no doubt affect the conclusion of any RX Vega review. So far most reviews list AMD's RX Vega 64 as being priced at AMD's original MSRP of $499 and £449, which is no longer true.

We have contacted AMD to ask them whether or not their RX Vega 64 will be available in its "standalone" form in the future, but so far we have gotten no response. To say the least, this price increase will have a huge effect on Vega's perception, with this price increase within an hour of the GPUs launch making AMD's listed MSRP seem like a review manipulation tactic.
wow.

And this is evidenced by the large stock sitting on shelves right now with nobody buying right?

I went to buy two yesterday morning and they were all sold out everywhere. At least at MSRP.

Seeing what they are doing with respect to hashrate and power consumption I am glad I was unable to get them, went with GTX 1070 with a fullcover waterblock installed instead.

Calling BS until we get an official statement from AMD. It's bad enough they're launching cards with similar performance to the 1070/1080 in 2017 with nearly twice the power consumption. It would be disturbing for them to further alienate any buyers they have left for "gaming".

Let's hold off on the pitchforks, but it's not as if the alleged launch price was valid for the average gamer who wanted to actually buy one of these at launch.

In fact anyone holding out for a Liquid (me, for instance) saw prices that were right up against an AIO 1080Ti, an objectively faster and lower-power card. If prices go any higher then AMD might as well just stick a fork in Vega.

i'm borderline appalled atm. if this was any other company people would be storming the castle. (btw, stay away from tiki torches for now . . )

funny how when gibbo expresses a postive on amd, people suck it down w/o question. . .

Isn't this the same guy that claimed 70-100MH/s hash rate for Vega?

If true, AMD is digging it's own grave.

By the way do we have any sale states from any retailer ? I mean units sold.
I think mindfactory.de ( german e-tailer ) has sell statistics which show how many they've sold, don't remember however if they only count the units that they had available or if it includes backorders as well.
I have a slight feeling that there was a rather limited supply at launch.

The voodoo magic that says that you take a product price in USD, apply 10 to 20% on top, change the $ to an EUR sign and that's your European retail price.

It's how it has worked for the past five years.

Same on Newegg here in the US. No $499 cards any longer.

AMD must have a great driver which will blow the doors off the 1080ti, hence the prices. ...................... LOL

Thats total system consumption not just the card.

Anyone who thinks this article is remotely true is kidding themselves, this is from Gibbo the same dude who "leaked" that the hash rate of vega was going to be 70-100mh/s.

Retailers have TOTAL control over the price of the product, people need to realize this and get on with it. I got mine for 508€ with taxes, it was on sale and still is. Retail price WAS 649€ but its not 749€ for every single Vega edition including the watercooled. Does it make any sense that they are all the same price and people would just buy the limited edition or LC edition rather then the plane 64 air card. It's not AMD controlling the prices its the retailer, it was the exact same with Ryzen on launch day.
