Does water cooling actually help threadripper OC higher than air?

Absolutely. It hits a temp wall that kept hardOCP from going as far on the Enermax AIO as they did on a custom loop. It's probably up there with high core count x299 chips as far as least friendly for air. Too much power going through the package.

Threadripper's TDP is 180W - without any overclock. That alone is almost double the amount of any 115X CPU. Under heavy overclock scenarios, people reached 300W - on the CPU alone! This amount of energy has to be dissipated somehow... I think it's obvious that air cooling solutions that are laid to for ~100W scenarios of current platforms will have serious trouble to punch three times over their own class...

No, the block cannot be rotated.
We haven't tested reversed flow yet. I'd expect it to be in a similar dimension as with the HK IV: 5-10°K, slightly worse flow rate.

Small pet peeve of mine- the Kelvin scale doesn't have a degree (°) symbol associated with it because it is an absolute scale, and not one set to an arbitrary range. Carry on now biggrin.gif

Jakob - Have you guys starting shipping those copper TR waterblocks? My order status says "Closed" so I'm not sure what that means.

"Closed" means that the order has been transferred from the shop script to the shipping department. This means you cannot make any changes to that order anymore - hence "closed". It's a bad wording that's been hardcoded in that shop script, unfortunately.
But yeah - your order is being processed and will probably ship today smile.gif You'll receive an automated email with tracking info as soon as it is picked up by the parcel company.
