A lot of users claimed that the AMD Radeon RX Vega would be significantly faster than the AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition as the latter was not a graphics card meant to run games. From the looks of it, AMD's latest gaming GPU performs almost similarly to its workstation card. In other words, the AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 is almost similar to the AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition when it comes to games performance.
Duderandom84 has tested the AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 and the AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Duderandom84 ran the game in 4K with all settings maxed out (apart from the Hairworks effects), and the RX Vega 64 was faster by only 1-3fps. Or if you like percentages, the RX Vega 64 was 2-3% faster than the Vega Frontier Edition.
Now before posting it, do note that PCPer's results appear to be a bit misleading. According to reports, PCPer did not use the latest drivers for the Frontier Edition, and did not re-benched the game.
The GPU was never what distinguished the RX from the FE.
Vega is Vega, no matter if it's in an RX, FX, MI-25, or WX part.
Same can be said for pretty much all AMD GPUs ever, and most NVIDIA ones...only the last few generations of top-end professional NVIDIA parts have different GPUs than their consumer variants.
Big surprise... the cards are all the same only with different RAM amount, minor speed differences and 56 is a bit cutdown. It was not users that claimed RX Vega will be much faster and come with some extra stuff, it was AMD namely Raja that claimed RX Vega will be faster and that customers should wait for RX instead of buying FE.
If you go to Raja's Twitter page, just start at the top and scroll down, all he talks about is Threadripper. There's basically nothing about Vega. You know, the new card just launched? And this is the head of RTG. Wow.

Where are all those AMD apologists and whiteknights claiming different silicon, different drivers, different features, different magic now? What happened guys?
Was told I was an idiot for saying the Vega 64 won't beat a 1080Ti. If I was more petty I'd go back to that reddit thread and start it back up again. But no, it's not worth it.
You know, I'm pretty sure what this article is saying is not what myself and others were saying about Vega FE. Of course FE is the same silicon; with the same drivers it will perform the same, but we were all scoffing at the idea of drivers improving performance substantially. We turned out to have been somewhat wrong. RX Vega did somewhat exceed my expectations (which were rock bottom).
What about HBCC on and off? Does it improve minimums at least?
