I agree this release with x299 has really been a mess, I think it is odd the flagship board is MIA being able to be found in the US

He suggests to set the board up with an Intel air cooler first (he is only using a 7820X) before adding the custom cooling just to make sure everything is AOK.

This is my first go at water but I have built many rigs. I will be using 7900X on an R6E and ask:

1. Should I set it up bare without the water loop and test?
2. If so where do I get a cheap air cooler to test?

Yes it is always recommended to test hardware before putting it under water, especially if you are going hard lined.

You get a cheap air cooler where ever just pick up something like an Evo 212, a lot of people will keep it on air and install windows and make sure everything is identified and installs correctly. Some just get the board to turn on and post and make sure BIOS sees everything and than they start water cooling install. You do whichever you think is best for you

heck i didn't do anything, with the air cooler pretty much all you need to do is make sure it is compatible with socket 2011-v3 and you are good to go. Don't waste too much on a fancy heatsink you are just testing with it.

I got a email from amazon stating that they had it in stock on fri the 22nd but i didnt read it until today and of course today its out of stock. I ordered mine from bh. And was tossing around the idea on which cpu to get. I first was going to get the 4720x 4 core as i do mostly gaming but wasnt to happy about only having 16 pcie lanes. Did some research and found that the 7820x out performes in gaming over the 7700k. Even when it oc lower. So purchased the 7820x from amazon as well as 32g of g.skill rgb 3400 ram. Also pre ordered the ek nickle mono block. Now hoping i can sell my rampage 4 black edition with the 4960x and ek nickle block with 64gb of corsair ddr3 dominator platinium ram...

Build thread here: https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?96170-Rampage-VI-Extreme-build-thread

Drop pics in there. Would be nice to see hiw you guys are making use of the board. We spent a lot on aesthetics, so good to have something to show for it when we spec future models.
