It seems PC fans -- myself included -- agree with PC Gamer's recent top 100 list: The Witcher 3 is the best game you can play right now. The publication asked its readers to vote for their favorite titles and added the results to its own list, which was put together by editors and contributors. Participants picked two games from the Top 100 and recommended two others that didn't appear. The list would then be reordered based on reader selections, and games with the fewest votes were replaced with the most popular new suggestions. While there were some significant differences, the amazing Witcher 3: Wild Hunt retained its number one position, and while PC Gamer put the evergreen Half-Life 2 in the number 11 spot, readers boosted it up to second place
Witcher 3 just did a lot of things right and made a lot of people happy. Not the game for all but the game for majority. It came at a time where really the quality and service of games was rock bottom.
Top 100s should be about games that made a difference and people have header about them and played them at some point in their lives. Stuff like Wow, Rocket League, Dota 2, CS:GO, PUBG etc. Top and Favorite are different things entirely.
In 10 to 20 years time when she isn't so pretty I don't think people will be going back to Witcher 3 in the way some other old games are remembered here. It really doesn't innovate in any way.

Says who? You're projecting your own notion of what constitutes a favorite game onto others and this list.
While I'm seeing titles on either list that I would never even consider for a top 100 (let alone higher than 50th), you have to understand this list is formed from the opinions of, firstly, the stupidly reduced number of PCGamer staff and, secondly, of a suboptimally small pool (and probably mono-typical) that is the readers of the publication that were willing to vote.
And why couldn't a game like PUBG be considered one of the best games you can play right now? It's THE ONLY game ever made that supports first-person only BR, and has been topping Steam sales FOR MONTHS, despite being in alpha state still.
Maybe it's just me but I couldn't get into it. It wasn't truly an open world and every piece of dialogue was a cut scene. The more I get older the more I hate cut scenes.

In what sense? I play a lot of different games stating with RTS, MOBA daily, FPS (BF1, CS:GO, Overwatch) and next to now RPG and loved Witcher 3. Maybe you are a RPG player and dont like the style of Witcher 3?

I don't know, it never ran smoothly after a patch update, I have a dual core CPU. And this was done deliberately by the developers. I only keep it on my HDD because downloading it again will be a pain in the neck with slow internet connection, at least 40GB is just getting wasted with the game.
It's from patch 1.07 that it started running badly on dual cores, prior to that patch it was running fine even on dual cores, developers intentionally did that it seems.

I think the story in HoT was probably best thing I have experienced in a Video Game. The main game was more so to get familiar with the Witcher and the world. The last Exp was more of a fan service and based on older works. I found the combat fine. There was so much to Witcher that considering how important combat is in a lot of games it was overshadowed by other activities. I just loved walking in the world. think of it as a walking simulator.
