If you're suspecting a dead motherboard the next step is to eliminate all possible variables that you can by doing a bench build.
Place the motherboard on a non conductive surface such as the motherboard box, re-seat CPU and cooler. Install only 1 stick of ram. Use onboard video if available and connect a monitor. Connect the power supply cables to the 24 pin and the 4/8 pin cpu connectors only, if you have no onboard video be sure to connect power to the graphics card as well.
use a small screw driver to jumper the power button pins on the motherboard to see if it posts.
If it posts you can slowly add components back on to see if adding 1 component or the next causes an issue.
Report back with the results. thumb.gif

Yeah I've had Seagate hard drives cause systems not to turn on. So make sure to unplug any drives from the psu you might be using. And test with out them.

Tried in situ jump start with screwdriver. Dead. Have one of those wee electrical test ones with the light in getting nothing from fan headers. He's dead Jim. Now. New mobo or ryzen? 450ish v getting another am3 board... Or is cpu dead too. Can test that at a mates. The tim was darker on one side of it.

Did you do this with the board outside of the case though?
A class mate of mine did a build in college with a small group and the motherboard was thought to be dead, turned out to be a grounding issue in the case. One of many reasons I advised a bench build.

I am not following what you're saying as that term is unfamiliar to me, sorry.

EDIT: So you did this with the motherboard in place it seems. Still would advise the bench build.

Yeah. The rig doesn't move so unless the short fairy came round and stuck a bit of aluminium foil or something down the back of my board it's really unlikely. But I'll do it tomorrow, sod it πŸ™ƒ

Good luck to you my friend, sometimes just taking it all apart and putting it back together does wonders. tongue.gif
