I'm on a phone a lot.
At work streaming music, watching videos, doing personal business, looking up websites I can't on the works wi fi etc etc. I've pretty much have become slave to my cellphone and instead of selling off my used phones I still keep them around at the house just in case I need them.

But yeah its an essential these days unlike my PC. And when Verizon grandfathered me long time ago for my unlimited Data I've always been paying 599+ for a flagship so the price of 1k doesn't bother me for a phone that I'll most likely keep for 1.5~2 years.

If there wasn't a dumb notch on the Iphone X I might have seriously considered buying one. I still have a Note 4 and it's barely hanging on. I have to have Wakelock enabled, otherwise it just freezes up and is not functional. Not sure why a phone can't reliably last 3 years. It's certainly turned me off from buying another Samsung phone.

I'm hoping it holds out for a bit longer so I can see what Google will release with the Pixel 2.

With the new cycle of calling this a 8/8+ as opposed to the 7S, is Apple still releasing minor vs major 2 year changes? Or is it the Iphone X is a one year advanced release of the 2018 features that will be in the 9/9+ (assuming they will keep that nomenclature and then the 2018 X would be a X1 or something).

I can't imagine paying 500$ a year for my phone. How is it an essential life choice to buy a new flagship phone every 2 years....? The only reason I buy high end is for longevity.

I guess if phones are your thing.....but yikes that is an expensive habit.

Still nowhere close to as bad as high-end PCs. You do know where you are, right? thumb.gif

True to some degree. But somehow a 1000$ phone doesn't get me as giddy as a 1000$ GPU(Which I would never buy anyway being the cheapskate I am). biggrin.gif

I usually kept a phone for two years. And again not having a cell phone is far worse than not having a personal computer at home. Always can cheat and use my work laptop but if I didn't have a phone getting in touch with people would be a bit troublesome.

Guess I should be happy that I've always been blessed with a job that allowed me to keep such a habit.

But yeah my phone history is short actually biggrin.gif

Sorry if this comment offends you, but tbh this picture is nowhere near acceptable "technically" in the photography world. No foreground blur (we camera freaks call it bokeh), background bokeh is absolutely fake (it is), and most important, the transition of main object vs background/foreground is terrible.

However, you did a good job getting the expression of your model thumb.gif. That's the advantage of smartphones, you can always carry them along and capture precious moments in a blink.

Soon its will all be about which phone/camera has the best SOC. Sure DSLR have big glass bu they are dont have very good image processors that keep up with the speed and R&D of smartphones.

samsung was making a DSLR hybrid, if i remember right its the ZOOM series, i wonder what happened to that.

Video explains the color of the flash still bothers him. iPhone 7+ portrait mode looked more like a blurred background whereas the 8+ looked more like a dslr bokeh effect. I'm guessing as long as you frame your subject properly the lack of foreground blur makes a less gimmicky photo.

Going to be a lot better seeing them on the OLED HDR for the X over the 8+.
