I've slowed down a bit in the past couple of years, but I buy phones and GPUs because I can and I enjoy them. They're also something that I can push to their limits and justify upgrading because they're 2 things I use quite a lot of in my life. If you're happy with your flawed $300 handsets, that's cool....but criticizing others because you can't/won't/don't use a device to it's potential....rolleyes.gif.
Yeah, and I'm fine with it not being perfect. I don't take offense to it tongue.gif. Even if the phone offered the specs to make it perfect, I'm not a perfect cameraman and never will be biggrin.gif.

However, I'm not a camera junkie and don't have the desire to spend the big bucks on a 'one-trick' pony camera that I'm not going to use anywhere near it's full potential. I mean, I'm all for it and I get why people invest in DSLRs and high-end cameras, but I'm just not that person. I really desire a good camera with good low-light performance and I'm generally very happy. I've only recently started taking a lot of pictures again and that's because of my puppy.

I don't think its fair to categorize anybody criticizing the price as "not being able to afford it". I don't think that's the point being made. If somebody really just loves the iPhone and always has to have the latest and greatest I don't have any problem with them spending whatever they want to get it. But pointing out that there are other products that offer similar performance, features, etc for half (or even less) the price is a fair point.

Right, but $300 handsets have flaws either within their software (that are never updated or fixed) or in their hardware that are also not easily fixed. To further that point, Samsung, LG and Apple all have more consistency in their build quality alone that makes me not consider a $300.

If you're happy with a budget phone and can get buy on that...go for it....but the arguments of 'I don't see why people spend $1000 on a phone when I can do what I need on a $300' are getting silly.

haha, this reminds me of the open-box refurb iP6 for half the retail price, they were being sold by an authorized apple seller.

We don't really know what's going on with the screen exactly... and we won't until a very thorough review (perhaps by DisplayMate) is done. It may just be a stock OLED screen from Samsung, or it may not.
Also it's not as if Apple is deceiving anyone here -- they didn't claim that they manufacture screens. It's pretty obvious it's coming from a supplier like Samsung.

The CPU is basically the fastest around. If it's just "OK", then what is everything else...?

Apple was the first to hit 4k60 encode and it remains to be seen how much of a lead they can hold with it until they start using 4k60 encode with a 10 bit recorder for hdr.
Indeed... what is actually required to encode 4k60? CPU, GPU, or other stuff?

depends on the encode, certain non-standard encodes won't work with GPU acceleration.
the rule of thumb is that, you need a beefy CPU and an GPU with the latest decoder pipe.

I disagree. iOS is far superior to Android in some ways. At least Apple has figured out how to use resources efficiently without just throwing more RAM in.

Try both with an open mind before you speak.

Panasonic's GH5 can do 4k60 10-bit 4:2:2 encoding internally with the v2 firmware, but it's an actual Ilc, and can have a much larger body (people would probably riot if a company tried to come out with a phone as big as the GH5 tongue.gif). Bonus is that it's at 400Mbps too. As for phones that have the capability, rumours (and hope) point towards such being possible with the Red Hydrogen, but such hasn't been confirmed yet.

Yeah being able to buy a Xiaomi A1(4gb RAM, 64Gb storage with SD Card) for 240$ is totally a bad thing.
Taking in consideration how restrictive iOS is, it should use less RAM.
