Nvidia has a pretty strong lineup ever since last year, and with the recent Vega release from AMD we do not expect massive movements with new products this year. However the one product series that could see a bit of a boost would be the GTX 1070. It is now rumored that a GTX 1070 Ti is in the works.

Now, I am naming the product Ti but really it might be called a 1070 LE as well.

Hmmmmm.... I don't know how I feel about this.

REMEMBER! Hilbert is calling it the 1070Ti. Naming is NOT set in stone, nore is the CONFIRMED!
I know how much OCN likes to rally the mob and get the old pitchforks and torches ready so take this with A GRAIN OF SALT.

They have never launched a x70 TI before. if it's legit news. this is gonna be first time, and it will also complete TI naming for x50 to x80 cards.

I always though Nvidia would do themselves a bit cost saving favour if they only release 3 cards per generation. 1 for high budget, 1 for medium budget and 1 for low budget. Performance to match each tier obviously.

It wouldn't surprise me, this is the bare minimum they need to do to keep sales at pace. They don't need a new gen for quite some time now after Vega's misfire.

I think it's more likely we'd see a 2080 to begin a refresh than any ti variant though.

They make several GPU chips that fit those segments but the full chip can't always be used due to defects so they sell it as a lower tier. It's a way to get some extra revenue for partially defective parts.

This though would seem to be closely overlap another of it's own product unless it has some different specs to offer performance in different areas.

Exactly, there doesn't need to be a card to run Game X and 60 FPS, another at 61 FPS, another at 62 FPS...Products need some separation. With the variation between AIB and retailers there will end up with pricing overlap if the market segments are too close. Thus my comment above about performance in different areas like games vs compute to create the separate at similar price points.

Yeah, but what will fill it? Broken 1080 dies with something like 2304 ROPs?

Seems like an odd product at best.

But if there truly are enough buggered dies to fit that niche AND the SKU is priced right.. I don't see why not.

Maybe Nvidia is doing this: (PURE SPECULATION) A 1070 ti that performs 5% better than a regular 1070, but uses 20% more power might be a good thing. It'll be great for gaming, but not for mining. Maybe Nvidia is trying to create a gaming card THAT'S ACTUALLY FOR GAMING. I can only hope...

Its not about filling up a gap. Its about releasing something "new".

I also think this is an odd move by NV if it is true. Although considering the laptop 1070 features more cuda cores than the desktop 1070 & the leak is siting the 1070ti to have the same 2048 cuda cores the laptop part does it is a feasible rumor IMO. Also while it doesn't make much sense squeezing a card in between the 1070 & 1080 if they price it right it'll sell like hotcakes most likely anyways. So if this rumor is true I would say NV's thinking behind this is to overtake Vega 56 & 64 with a card cheaper than either & get more money out of chips that need to be cut down to work properly anyways.

Is a 1070 Ti just a 1080 then? There's not that big of a gap between them is there? Enough room for another SKU?
