Hello all! You've already seen the title at this point, so I will cut straight to the chase.
biggrin.gif

The objectives for this build are as follows:
  • Watercooled Loop for the CPU
  • RGB Integration with Asus Aura
  • Future storage expansion capabilities
This system will be my daily driver. I perform a lot of multi-tasking on this system, video gaming, and various other assorted tasks.

I have never done custom water cooling before, so I am very excited to try this new chapter in my PC build career.
I am only going to be watercooling the CPU, as I am constantly swapping GPUs in an out of my system, usually for Folding@Home. Join team 37726!

Honestly, there is nothing special about the name. I am a big anime nerd, and all of my computers are named after some random anime character. The names are selected by either myself or my girlfriend, who is also a huge anime nerd.

That being said, this computer is named after Shizuku Hazuki, the game director from "New Game!". I gave it this name for no particular reason really, I just like the character

So for the first post, I might as well give an update on where I currently sit.

I have ordered all the new parts for the system, and now is the great waiting game. Most everything should be here by Monday.
The only thing that is unknown at this point is the XSPC waterblock, as it is currently still in pre-order status.

Taken from my post in the Threadripper Owners Club...

According to XSPC, the blocks have already shipped to PPC, and are somewhere in the limbo that is USPS. (or some other carrier, they didn't specify who they shipped with)
According to PPC, the blocks will ship shortly after they are received. Fortunately, PPC is operational again, and shipping supposedly will resume today.

Hopefully this means that we will see the blocks shipped out within the next couple days

As the hardware begins to arrive, I will post photos and give status updates. A lot of the parts from the new build will be coming out of the computer that I am currently typing from, so that will be part of the conversion process.

Anyways, more to come soon!

The first package arrived, and it's the RAM. Once a couple more things show up, I'll post some photos.

Nice !

I'm glad I'll get to see how a 8c TR is going to perform .. Lots of people were wondering the reason for it's existence, since there's already the 1800X at that core count..
But the TR4 platform itself is worth it in my book..

The way I see it is you are essentially getting an 1800x, with all of the benefits of the TR4 platform, at the additional premium.

I am expecting TR4 to be around for a couple years, so if I decide that I need to upgrade, then I can probably get used hardware for cheaper in the future.

I'd be disappointed and surprised if TR4 gets the axe. They're reusing the server platform's socket and package, and they aren't creating any new dies, and all the media buzz has shown there's a good chance it'll be a popular HEDT platform. No real reason for Zen+ to drop support.

Same reason Intel launched the 4820K when the 3770K existed: they both have four cores and Hyperthreading, but the 4820K got X79 goodies like extra L3, PCIe lanes, and memory channels, and the larger IHS helped cooling a bit. Similarly, Threadripper gets 60+4 lanes to play with rather than Ryzen's 20+4, and it gets two memory controllers rather than one.

Performance is an interesting question. The 1900X is comparable to a pair of R5 1400Xes taped together, with 4MB L3 and two cores per CCX. Latency between threads should, on average, go up compared to Ryzen R7; only 3 of the 15 other threads are within the same CCX while 7 of the 15 are within the same CCX for an R7. I think they're comparable overall, but the R7 might win in latency-sensitive situations while Threadripper will utterly destroy anything AM4 in anything memory-intensive.

Plus, as EPYC has shown us, enough cores and memory channels are enough to bruteforce anything.

Those are my thoughts exactly. TR4 has gotten a lot of positive media coverage lately, so I expect it to be around for a while. I don't expect the latency between the two dyes to effect me too much, as I am fairly certain most of the stuff I am working with is not very intensive anyways.

It will be interesting to see how to see how it performs, and I look forward to seeing how well the performance scales with a solid OC under water.

First update ahoy!

The first batch of parts arrived today!

The first parts to arrive were the 1900x, RAM, DDC Pump, SSD, and the 5050 LED splitters.

I must shamefully admit, it took me about 15 minutes to get the Threadripper package open. I was struggling to unlock the back portion of the shell, but it eventually loosened up after several attempts.
redface.gif

And yeah, this chip is massive. The pictures don't really do it justice.

And that's all for now! More parts coming in tomorrow, so more pics should be up tomorrow night

Are you going to try some a7 WUs on the CPU?
My Asus x399 Prime is a large and beefy mobo. I will be posting some pics shortly.

I absolutely will. I am intrigued to see what some of these WUs look like on Ryzen. Who knows, maybe if we can get more people to adopt these higher core count CPUs, we can expand the parameters of the CPU category in the TC

Second batch of parts came in today!

In this shipment, I received the following parts:
  • Asus 399-A Mobo
  • Corsair Air 740
  • Asus External Bluray Drive
  • And almost all the watercooling gear
Now I am just waiting for some sort of confirmation about the waterblock being shipped out, and then I will have all of the components needed to get this system online.
smile.gif

And here are some glamour shots of the mobo. This is a very solid mobo, I am very impressed with the variety of IO on this board.
The only complaint I have is the lack of case fan ports. Fortunately, the Asus Extension board I ordered will be here on Monday, so then I will be able to fully control all of the fans on this case.

Truth be told, I am out of disposable funds until November, so no more hardware for me any time soon

I know the feeling. I jumped on the second 1080ti and water-cooling stuff but then something came up and I am having to postpone a better PSU and bigger case. The PSU I have is fine for Folding but any kind of intense gaming in SLI and it says NOPE lol. So I just game on a single card for the moment.

I'm excited to see your reports with the 1900x

I defintely feel that. In regards to the PSU, I was originally planning on using my 850W Platinum PSU for this build, but after remembering that I have my 980 and 980ti in my desktop right now, I have decided to use my 1050W Gold PSU.

Honestly, me too. I am probably going to come up with a temporary cooling solution to get this system online faster, until the the Waterblock arrives. Probably rip the Kraken x60 out of the current system, and install a 212 Evo in it's place...
Not 100% sure about that yet though.
