Need new card......HELP!! - Page 3

Thanks all with the help, just pulled the trigger on a twin fan Gigabyte 1060 along with a 120mm fan and an extra 8GB of RAM to keep everything moving and cool. Thought long and hard about spending the extra $$$ to future proof my system with a 1070/1080 but when I added up the costs of actually being able to utilize that kind of processing power the math got silly really quick since I would have to replace half of my components to do so. Now if I can just find a way to install this thing without damaging anything, never messed with the inside of computers like this before.

1060 is the sweetspot for you I think. Good choices with picking up extra 8gb of ram as well.

HOLD UP!!! How old is the 760 and what brand is it? did you buy it new?
Have you checked into warranty at all?

I skimmed this thread and didn't see it mentioned but apologies if it was. Figure it's worth a shot if it was purchased less than 3 years ago.

The 760 came with this tower that I bought in April 2014. I don't think the warrenty applies. Contacted Nvidia and they had me run a data log, they confirmed that it is dead.

Got ya, if you got it with the tower there is not much you can do, although my friend got a GTX 680 with his cyberpower PC rig and it had it's own standalone warranty from EVGA so it could be worth it to look up the serial number if at all possible. Best case scenario you get a replacement card at the cost of shipping and you can re-sell it when it arrives. Worst case scenario? You're no worse off than what you are right now. thumb.gif

evga only has a 3 year warranty. I assume its expired by now but it's worth a shot. sniper.gif

Success! Just got the 1060 installed and working as well as the RAM and everything is clocking along just fine, tested on Witcher 3 and Hunter: Call Of The Wild on Ultra settings, everything is silky smooth and the GPU is running 63 degrees peak 40 less then the 760 on the same game trying to run the most basic graphics settings possible, the 1060 may be the same power class but the difference in performance is astonishing and it is as quiet as a church mouse, no matter how hard I run it it has not made an audible sound at all, the 760 sounded like a worn out turbine engine. Have my new 120mm fan set up to blow right along the new GPU and I left the old 80mm on top to run it as a push pull system, if I upgrade the system further I'll probably replace that with a 120 as well.
