The 8-core processor Intel is planning to launch in the second half of 2018 will be based on the current 14 nanometer "Coffee Lake" micro-architecture, according to leaked XTU errata log

This doesnt make sense from all point of things... why does intel release a 8 cores on same process to compete with x299?

It only make sense if it was on 10nm to lower power requirement or tdp for a 1151 socket. For high power we have the x299.

Miss opportunity for 8th gen 10nm Canon Lake on desktops.

you can say the same for 8700k, why does intel would release a 6cores CPU on the same node to compete with x299 while having lower/similar price and better performance in applications/games?

My guess is that 8C/Z390 is Intel's first "real" response to AMD on the mainstream market. Everything else we've seen up through now (6C CFL, Z370, X299, KBL-X, etc...) were already on the roadmap long ago so they couldn't change much. The only change so far is the knee-jerk 14-18 core Skylake X chips. (which were taken from the server parts)

That sounds good but I don't know how much faith I put in a wccftech article. Are we sure 10nm won't be ready by then? If it is ready why would they make 14nm chips instead? H2 could mean December for all we know. So why not use their 10nm process? Unless it has massive problems or something I guess but despite rumors we have no proof of this. I remember rumors about Intel's 14nm being horrible but it turned out good. And GF's 14nm having problems and being a poor copy of samsungs but it was good, and GF's 32nm process being awful but then it turned out it was just bulldozer that sucked....hmmm

Early iterations of node shrinks generally perform best at low power. Intel's first gen 10nm actually performs worse at high power than their 14nm++, so they plan to release first iteration 10nm chips at low TDP ranges (read: mobile) and wait for 10nm+ to bring it to HEDT and all that.

GF's 14nm certainly does have some issues as far as high-power parts are concerned; as should be evident from the "low power plus" moniker it doesn't scale all that well into higher TDP ranges. Pushing Zen well past 95W is just pointless and Vega goes from 210W TDP w/ 56CU @ 1471MHz all the way to a ridiculous 345W w/ 64CU @ 1677MHz (even worse that Vega's performance still does not scale that well with clock speed or even those last 8 CUs apparently). RX 480 -> RX 580, what like 5% clock speed gain for 20% TDP increase? And their 32nm was leaky as hell.

10nm for Intel desktop / bigger chips won't be here before late 2018.

You can always wait. CFL 6 core will be a good time to buy.

I still dont believe 8 cores will be coming to mainstream on 14nm process. It will be likely 10nm if the yield are good.

I dun think it will take them one year to release a 8 cores 14nm cpu on the same architecture as CFL

Uh... they are already here. Its called Ryzen and its here for almost half a year already. Maybe even the FX series.
