Every CPU with >4C regardless of architecture or clock speed performs far worse than smaller chips with the same or similar architectures even when normalizing for clock speed. Dismissing the data points that don't fit your hypothesis by saying they must be wrong, sounds like heavy cognitive bias

Wait wut...5960X performs horribly?? Relative to what?

FX 8370 in gaming wink.gif

That ought to stir the pot.

i wonder why those benchmark are all GPU limited?

Games , not proper testing since not 0.1% lows Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

My guess is FX -8370 is roughly locked i5 level in most cases at best when a proper GPU is used and it isn't a GPU bound game

I'd say at worst it would be like a stock clocked i 5 of the same age , at best it's somewhere between a stock 3770K /4770K in gaming. ( 5 ghz/2400mem/2600nb).

The Cinebench R -15 scores you posted earlier would tend to support this.

Hype ZEN 2 "Matisse", let's forget about Bulldozer tongue.gif

If AMD can break into ultrabooks it would be HUGE for them.

Most customers buy laptops and 2-in-1 folding ultrabooks now, not desktops.

intel and nvidia are king and will be for the gamer wanting to experience the high end of PC gaming, and even then its not powerful enough, really we need Coffee Lake at 5ghz with a 5% IPC improvement and a 1180 ti with another 10-15% improvement with more OC headroom to really enjoy high refresh 3440x1440. AMD just doesn't appeal to me i love AMD but i want a diff gaming experience than what they can offer me

I'm running my 3570K at 4.7GHz with an EVGA 1080Ti FTW3 (boosts to 2000-2050MHz) and doesn't have issues at 1440p 110Hz or 3440x1440 60Hz. I should be at similar IPC as Ryzen without the extra 4C/12T. I've tried running my 3570K at 5Ghz and 4.2Ghz and didn't really see any noticeable performance changes in gaming (synthetics will show a small difference).

A better CPU would only net me better minimum FPS. Is that worth spending $500-700 in a new motherboard/CPU/DDR4 RAM for gaming? Doesn't seem like it for my needs. I would hope that the upcoming 3440x1440/200Hz or 4K/144Hz monitors may warrant such an upgrade, but until those are released and the QA issues are ironed out, I don't expect many people rushing to upgrade to the latest Intel platforms for a purely gaming standpoint.

It doesn't look fake until you read that Bristol Ridge is using Polaris Gpu
