Samsung Choice: 512 GB 850 Pro, 1 TB 850 Pro, or 1 TB 850 Evo

My Samsung 850 Pro 256 GB is getting full and I have Destiny 2 coming since I purchased a 1080 a few months ago. I plan on building a new system whenever Ryzen 2 or Ryzen + or whatever it is called comes out. I will evaluate all CPU options then, but I'll definitely be going with an M.2 drive at that time. Currently, I'd like to upgrade my SSD so that I can have OS plus all games and apps and then it can go with me to the next system as a storage drive and I can move my spinning disks to my server. I don't necessarily want to spend $450 on a 1 TB 850 Pro for my aging system, but I'm of the buy once cry once mentality if it's really worth it. Current system is shown properly in my signature: Core i7-2700K at 4.5, 16 GB DDR3 1600, Asus Strix 1080. I'm pretty sold on Samsung SSDs. and I love that the 850 Pro 1 TB has a 10 year warranty. What would you go with between:

512 GB 850 Pro
1 TB 850 Pro
1 TB 850 Evo

If you have any other compelling choices, I'm all ears.

I think you mean 1 TB not 1GB. smile.gif

For main OS I would always go with Pro, Games & storage Evo is good enough.

Corrected, thanks.

If I go with 1 TB now, I'll likely pull the 840 Pro 256 and put it in my wife's PC and use her Intel 128 GB SSD for the system drive on my Linux Server. The new 1 TB will house everything, OS, games, apps. However, when I build the next PC, it will not have any OS on it. Pay me now or pay me later I guess.

there's no point in getting the 850 pro, just get the 850 evo or if you want something faster the 960evo 1tb with a lycom dt-120 adapter (around 20$) , and you can use it in your new build without the adapter

if you want to boot from your 960 evo though , you must change some things in your bios. Look at win-raid dot com

Thanks for the info on the adapter. I don't think I've got the time for hacking the BIOS, but that's good to know. +rep. Looks like I'll most likely get the 1 TB 850 EVO.
