How to stuff more than 10 hdds to mid tower?

Hello. I'm expanding storage in my machine and i ran into problem of not having any more space in chassis.

It already has 10 hdds and 1 ssd and I'd like to put 3 more drives however I don't really have any idea how am I supposed to do that. I have second chassis right next to it so i wonder if maybe i could connect them somehow... eh?

Any chance you can mount some behind the motherboard tray. I do not know how much space you have behind everything.

You may be able to make a bracket to place more sideways like the one by the power supply.

Slower drives may be better in such a place because they have less cooling without being in the path of the front fan..

Connecting to another case may work(In this case a small tower build for the job may be better). e-SATA brackets allow you to move SATA to box or enclosure. You may have some cable length limits with that.

then new case it is tongue.gif

or bigger case. or go RU space and if you can " cheaply" locate an empty compellent array case or something along those lines. shown below:

im pretty sure a new case would be cheaper so you dont have to worry about sled costs lol

Well... tbh one you gave is only 12 hdd while i'm looking for around 16 hdds total and 2 ssds (one for OS, one for raid caching). But anyways it's not really applicable to my case as i'm looking for possibly quiet chassis while those rackmount ones are not really. And i think they're too long to fit under my desk which was specifically designed and crafted to contain 2 mid tower cases. In general rackmount chassis are quite troublesome in home environment.

I'm not quite sure how can i connect Define R4 to R5 in a way to make it possibly "sealed". Currently when machines are connected there's around 3cm gap between them. I could probably reduce it to ~2cm. I never did any kind of modding before, I'm not sure how to hit it. My friend has 3d printer i could ask him to print something for me but i'm not sure what exactly would help me :/

my picture was only as an example. you can get 16 or more available slots but, even if empty they be expensive.

i mean if you want to go make shift type stuff and keep it as close as possible.

maybe this'll help you (put it on top of your current case

Why do you need so many hard drives? Can you upgrade to larger capacity drives?

Upgrading current drives would be really expensive. Those drives were collected for 5 years now. Initial raid had 3x2tb. Then it kept being expanded 3->4->5->8->10. Getting capacity of those 10 drives in bigger drives will be more or less the same cost as total cost getting all of these in the first place. If cost wouldn't be concern i'd probably get dedicated NAS instead of gettho mounting drives in generic Linux ATX PC.
