SERIOUS help required - RAM acting up badly

Thread Starter
I started another thread a few days ago, but I don't think the processor is the issue ...

MSI Z170A Krait Gaming 3X
Corsair Dominator Platinum 3466Mhz 2x16GB
H115i Cooling system

I now have 3 processors here:
i7-6700
i7-7700
i7-7700K

Originally I had the 6700 - worked flawless for 8 month! ONLY change in BIOS was XMP on, so I have the full 3466Mhz.

I upgraded to i7-7700K ... CPU out, CPU in. Nothing else.

Initially booted fine, then started getting WHEA UNCORRECTABLE ERRORs.

I found that XMP might cause issues, turned if off. Works fine again BUT 2133Mhz... not good frown.gif

I slowly started ramping up the speed manually (manual set speed plus DRAM Volt increase).

The MAXIMUM that would boot is 3000Mhz, but would evenutally fail in Win10 with WHEA error. Same thing for 2900Mhz... 2800 seemed to work.
If it doesnt boot BIOS gives me "OC clock error"
Also: after a few tries I could no longer get into BIOS with DEL-key at bootup. Had to go into Windows and use "GO2BIOS" from MSI software.

Put in 7700 processor... would boot with MAX 3066Mhz - also stable in Win10 it seems!

Put BACK the 6700 ... would NO LONGER WORK 3466Mhz - no boot, nothing. Maximum 3066Mhz booting and stable (it seems)!!!

I also noticed that on all 3 CPUs CORE#3 temperature is always good 10C lower than 1, 2 and 4.

Can anyone help?
RAM shot? How? Mainboard shot? How?

thanks!

If it's not stable at XMP, then you have a problem with your memory.

Make sure XMP is setting timings correctly by disabling XMP and setting timings/speed manually. Don't leave things on auto.

But if XMP is stable on one CPU and not the other, you're likely just having issues with the IMC.

Well, I tried 3 different CPUs now... and a 4th is on the way.
My OLD CPU (6700) worked flawless with XMP for 8 month and now it wont.
Started support ticket w MSI and Corsair - maybe they can help!

If it used to work and doesn't know it's probably a RAM issue unless you changed something in between then and now.

I think so too.
Only changed CPU's ... the system no runs fine with the 7700 NON-k and 3066Mhz. Timings reduced to 14-15-15-36. It booted ONCE at 3200Mhz but not a second time lol
