can faulty ram kill/break a mobo?

i7 3770k , z77 sabertooth mobo, crucial ballistix 4x4gb@1600mhz, gtx 1080ti, windows 7 pro

i bought some second hand ram for my pc off of ebay, corsair vengeance pro 2400mhz kit 2x8gb

after powering down and installing the new ram after windows booted the first time i started to get memory error warnings and certain programs would not run like thundermaster and asus aisuite.....then i got a bsod.
before the bsod i could see in cpu-z the ram was running at its rated xmp speed.

i then installed my old ram back in and the same error messages and non opening programs occured :S

i tried reinstalling windows but right at the end is said it could not install one program and the windows installer just cycled the pc off n on in a constant loop.

i then put my old gtx770 back in and tried reinstalling windows and got the same error message at the end of the install but windows loaded up......however it still gives me the same memory error messages when trying to run installers etc....07ashgdh failed a 0x00000f etc etc (there always different error messages but take the same form)

the gtx 1080ti is running fine in another much older pc.

so i think my new ram has broken something in my mobo

is this possible??

any help would be greatly appreciated

Should not be the case. Make sure the RAM slots are clean and reset CMOS battery.

you my friend are a life saver.
Recently change RAM in my system. First try it did not boot. Second try it did not show both stick and 3rd try it would show 2 stick buy only 4GB was usable. It was a combination of CMOS and dirty slot. Now that you have it fixed are you going to try the faster RAM again?

haha...yeah after a cmos reset worked on the old ram i tried the new ram instantly........it works.

not quite sure if im better off with the old stuff tbh.....max overclock i can get so far on my cpu is 3.9ghz.....i could get it upto 5ghz with the old stuff

turns out it was the cpu overclock ratio sat a 4.6ghz that was causing the error

i didnt think to drop my cpu ratio in the bios with the new ram.

after i finished my windows install ill try and tinker with the settings and see what happens.

thanks again mate

2400MHz does make a difference so its worth playing the the settings.

ive just managed to get it upto 4.6ghz at a nice 79 degrees c with 1.4volts on the core....
5ghz peaks out at around 95c.......

its funny because thats pretty much what i had it going at before :S

im guessing there were other things in the bios settings i havn't been tinkering with that were changed by the cmos reset.

im happy anyway.

Check PLL CPU Voltage. I think stock is 1.8v and you can lower it to 1.6v. If I remember correctly it does reduce temps. Recently I had to re-due my OC for 37700K and with 1.4v I was also hitting 80C @ 4.6GHz. Running now 4.5GHz at 1.325v.

i think somehow my ssd decided to fail......slowly....it completely failed today. it was a drevo x1pro 128gb.

im trying to reformat it on another pc and so far so good, but tbh i dont know if i want to trust it again.

tbh it felt cheap(much lighter in comparison to my old 60gb ssd) out of the box......and i remember reading a few reviews about it failing on others before i bought it

buy cheap buy twice i guess
