Special Magnifying glass

Hi,

I saw a clip on Youtube with someone repairing some bent pins on his CPU socket. I didn't actually see the magnifying glass itself but just the magnification which was pretty damn good. We all know how small those socket pins are and they looked huge under the glass.

I've assumed this magnifying glass has supports so it sits on the table top or is suspended on its own frame with controls for up and down, left and right and maybe a fine tune as well.

What would you call this type of magnifying glass? - One could be very useful - smile.gif

If it was just a magnifying glass then it was probably a "Magnifier Lamp". I would probably say it was a USB microscope that was mentioned since what you described was just video.

Now that's more like it - After a quick look they have a magnification of x1000.

Are there any "favorite" makes you know of?

Like mentioned one of these will be really handy - For example 2 x AsRock Z97 Pro 4 bought off Ebay, one of the sockets has a small blemish, a pin or two just needs checking out but the magnifying glass I bought just wasn't good enough!!!! - You know the old style magnifying glass' that you hold in one hand, yeah OK right idea but won't cut it - biggrin.gif

Any of the forum members here have one?

There seems to be quite a few for sale, some with better Windows support than others and with different degrees of magnification.

x 1000 is the greatest I've seen and there is one which is x 250 which looks really good for the intended purpose but is only x 250

What degree of magnification would be needed to show the CPU socket very well? - Maybe x 1000 wouldn't be needed but x 250 may not be enough! - Unless someone really knows there maybe some trial and error! smile.gif

Well I take a punt on the x 250 glass - to view the socket, take a picture here, then upload it if all goes to plan! - thumb.gif
