A new review of a Core i7 8700K has leaked onto the web, in Asia it is EXPreview who posted some benchmarks of the 8700K versus the 7700K and 7800X.
The guys benchmark the proc based on a the default clock / turbo on a system with 4x8GB memory set at JEDEC DDR4-2400 with CL14 timings. The results are as expected and as prognosed from what we have seen earlier on with the Cinebench leaks. EXPreview also took the proc to 4.5GHz and is showing some gaming benchmarks at 1920 x 1080.
Based on just the images in this link, 8700K is 7% faster in gaming and 42% in multithreadded applications.Only 1% faster in single thread. No bad with 2 extra cores and 4 extra threads.
Extremely interesting! I'm going to wait for official reviews to come out from various reliable outlets before I see what's what. Wife is do for an upgrade so a 8700K might be in order for her. Hopefully, We get good pricing here in the great white north.
I still love my Ryzen build, but if this is close to the 1700x price point i will be a little saddened. The only disappointment I have with my 1700x is it cant overclock. If i even think about typing 40 in the multiplier it crashes(reguardless of voltage) so I'm stuck at 3.95 (3.888 as reads in windows for some reason). But this looks like the exact chip i wanted back before Ryzen. Might have to do a new build come the nvidia 11xx series.

Don't be that sad, the only reason this processor exists is because of the Ryzen. Plus, the difference in real world will be negligible. If you're happy with your Ryzen as is, then it was a good purchase. These are just things we have to deal with as enthusiasts.
The real question is how this thing will OC. If it matches or beats the 7700K then Intel has a real winner on its hands (still mad about the socket though).
Unless I'm mistaken, won't this chip be soldered as is customary with Intel's hex-core and up designs? Not sure if this has changed since a few years ago but it's possible that delidding will not be possible/required.

If OCing is a big deal to you then you should've dropped more on a Intel counterpart. You pay premium for little gain but that's the way it is.
Besides, going from 3.95 to 4.2 isn't gonna give you much at all.

Depends on the price, power consumption and performance altho the latter is clearly gonna be great on 5ghz.
I very much doubt it's gonna take the price/performance crown from AMD tho.
Can't wait for this!! finally 6 core on Z platform
everyone talk about the OC ability.. remember this still on 1151 socket and small die.. but even i'm sure 4.7ghz is guaranteed ( multi core enhancement ).. and maybe delid unlock the 5ghz magic
That's a very good point to consider as well.
I personally would buy for the sole reason of having to rip your system completely apart whenever you want a cpu upgrade.
I strongly feel that intel is milking hard with their socket shenanigans.
