I would rather just take the cost of this cable and add it to the budget for my gpu.

Consoles, sure I guess...

I wasn't sold on it until I saw the latency tests.

Decent post processing AA with essentially zero latency and no performance it that is completely portable from platform to platform and requires zero software support is pretty neat, even at ~150 dollars.

I already have a 1080 ti in my gaming system. Another 150 bucks almost buys me...a waterblock.

I have never liked postprocess AA, an HDMI cable that blurs the image seems really bad. Can you turn it off or do you need to plug in a different cable when you want untouched pixels?

Maybe reasonable for a console but using this on a PC sounds horrible. puke.gif

Maybe I'm just a purist, but there are some very obvious sharpening-induced halo artifacts on the mCable gaming edition. The 720p Deus Ex example looks really bad with mCable and the Mario example isn't much better. I didn't listen to the audio, so I don't know if Linus brought it up, but the PCPer review didn't mention that at all.
The cinema edition looks like a neat idea for low-resolution video.

His conclusion (which it seems like we pretty much all share so far) is that it would be good for consoles, as long as you don't go too far back (like SNES for example), but not really worth it for PC....

This cable might actually make my girl's PS3 playable for me. It's too difficult for me to deal with the reduction in image quality, going from my PC to the PS3 - no matter how much I enjoy the Infamous series.... biggrin.gif

Yeah, I didn't listen to the audio so I don't know what he thought of it. I just don't get the whole AA+sharpening craze. I don't see a soft image as a bad thing for computer animation (see stuff like Pixar animation for an example of a really soft image). It's just a fact of life at 1080p if you don't want shimmering and I much prefer a soft image to shimmering. 4K is inherently a lot sharper and with softening temporal AA, it can look amazing, it's hopefully just a matter of time before the sharpening thing dies out. If the cable applied weak SMAA to everything, it might be a great choice for gaming consoles, but the sharpness degrades the image a lot. A game like Bloodborne, to use an extreme example, really, really, really doesn't need additional sharpness.

Honestly, judging by Linus' video, either they're manipulating the examples on purpose to make theirs look better or the cable is doing more than apply AA.

At first I had to check if it was April 1st again
Those sounded to me more like those Silver lan cables that cost a grand but being better than copper ones /s

If it were cheaper and had an on/off button it would be an easy buy I think

I wonder if Skyrim VR would benefit
