So we've shed a few words already on the upcoming GeForce GTX 1070 Ti. We've already confirmed the product through our industry sources, they will not say the final name just yet but we know for fact that the GPU is a GP104-300
SOURCE

Might be a good replacement for my 980. For sure.going to keep an eye on this!

Then what do you call a 1070 then? That's been the discussion the whole time.

This is just my opinion here but this is how I see Nvidia Skus. If you line up the cuda cores to fill rate this is what you get:

Model.........Cuda Cores.............Fill Rate
Titan XP......3840...........................240 <-Looks like a 1080TI. 980ti had 2816.
1080TI........3584...........................224 <-Looks like a Titan X IMO
(Titan X)......3072..........................192 <-A Litmus but see where it fails in line
(980ti).........2816..........................176 <-A Litmus. It falls right behind Titan X.
(1080).........2560..........................160 <-Looks like a 1070TI IMO
1070TI.........2432..........................??? <- Looks like a 1070 IMO. @ Guess 130-158
1070............1920..........................120 <-This looks like a 1060TI

Again, IMO and as we already know the card is only as effective as it's drivers. Thus the discrepancy between the XP and TI.

Guess I should have waited to buy my 1060 for any price drops coming...

With there being a $250 gap between the GTX 1080 and GTX 1080 Ti, and a pretty sizeable performance difference too, this will fill the niche for some buyers. Though I am not sure why you wouldnt just pay the extra $100-150 for a 1080Ti if you are already paying so much for a graphics card.

I believe this is expected to be slightly below the 1080, not above it. It has faster GDDR5 (not GDDR5X) and a slightly cut down GP104.

oh thats probably true, plus that would be hard to name it if it was between the 1080 and 1080ti, even though theyres a huge gap between them.

I went to my local Micro Center the other day and saw the pricing on the AMD Vega GPU's and they listed the first 2 at normal price. If a buyer decides to buy more than 2 the price becomes $10,000 for the 3rd one and beyond. I wish more companies did this to prevent miners swooping in on all of the available stock.

I mean, why would they tho? They can just sell more GPUs and their price will inflate and they will profit even more. From a business standpoint it doesn't make any sense at all.

Nvidia; beating their customers with a Sandbag.
You know what though?
Something wrong with a supposedly mid-range 1070 card with less then 2000 cuda cores when the higher end stuff starting in the mid 2000 cuda range. And the enthusiast range in the 3000 cuda core range. How can 1070, which is supposed to be what 3rd best card have 1920 cuda cores less then the top end? That is a grand canyon gulf of a gap there!

Something wrong with that. Something way wrong with that. That 1070 was never a real 1070 in my eyes. More like a 1060 or something. Straight up. Even if there is no competition, folk gotta see that. Don't they label that on the box?

Edit:

This supposedly 1070ti is more inline for what a 1070 should have been to me. What more needs to be said?
Problem is that 1080 (@2560CC)ain't up to snuff either though. As it lags behind the 980TI (@2816CC) in cuda cores. If anything, from an arch. standpoint the 1080 should have been superior to the 980ti going from an old gen to a newer one. IMO.

I'm following the cuda core to fill rate to get a better pic of how these skus come to light. To me, the raw deal comes in the 1070. This new 1070ti may in fact be from better binned chips but I believe that 1080 is the true 1070TI. As it still falls behind the 980ti in cuda core count 2816. The true 1080 should have been just north of the 2816 cuda core count. Be it 3072 or something else. You really don't need a X or XP variant and just go directly to the 1080TI.

Drivers will play a factor in all this. But I find it hard to believe that drivers for what is to be called a 1080 is on par/in the ball part with a 980ti but that's what folk believe.

This is what happens when AMD is unable/unwilling to produce a product that can compete with Nvidias high end chip... Welcome to the age of gaming stagnation

Same here. It's why I haven't built a pc since a few early Ryzen rigs for clients. The market is ugly between inflated RAM prices and mining shenanigans.

Probably trying to unload a ton of chips that pass validation below 2560 CC. From a BPOV trying to re purpose them into 1060's 1070s is a lost opportunity to make profit when you know they pass at 2432+ CC.

IMO, I don't think it has anything to do with AMD per say. We all know the RX56 pretty much wins over that card. So AMD is competitive there. I just think there is more money to be had when you have better binned chips that either need to be hard/soft cut to get the sku you want.

From all the pushback I recieved for calling the 680, 980, and 1080 mid-grade chips, probably very few and that is probably being optimistic...

Fanboyism is a plague to consumerism.

Eh, I got a lot of flack for it as well from both sides of the spectrum really. Not sure it's fanboyism as much as it has just been really persistent marketing on NVIDIA's part and legitimate unawareness of either computer architecture or history.

Considering that we are on OCN, the latter argument doesn't carry much weight.

This might turn into a very old conversation once Volta comes out but I have to wonder will folk do it again? Ignore that 2500-/+ CC count and declare it a high end card because it boost to 2500MHz!!!

bought a AIB 1070 2 weeks ago (GALAx EXOC) I am happy with it but could return the card still within next 2 weeks and get a full refund.

I think I am going to see how the 1080 and this 1070ti pricing settle to mae up my mind.but I guess makes sense the 1070 prices would drop now right?
