[HWBot] Overclock.net Takes Second In Team Cup 2017

Thread Starter

The HWBOT Team Cup 2017 competition is over, and Overclock.net takes an impressive second place overall.

The competition ran from July 1st to September 30th. This Team Cup competition once again challenged the world’s best overclocking teams against each other in an effort to answer one massive question - which group of overclockers represents the most talented, best organized and most dedicated overclocking team of the year?

Every year the Team Cup competition gets bigger and more demanding for extreme overclockers, this year the stakes were raised even higher. With four subcategory contests, twenty four unique stages and a target submission count of sixty four, without a doubt this has been the biggest, most exciting, and dramatic team overclocking competition in history. The contest spans virtually all hardware classes with a comprehensive mix of 2D, 3D, mobile and retro stages.

Overclock.net’s hwbot team has never been stronger. Before the competition even opened we had collaborated with each other and defined clear goals. We surmised early on that one very critical aspect to winning was to make sure that all 64 submission categories were filled. This is a nearly impossible task because it requires a truly vast amount of hardware and resources. From ancient 13+ year old equipment to recently released hardware, Team Cup requires it all. I am proud to announce that with sheer dedication, plenty of money, and a little luck, the overclock.net hwbot team was able to successfully complete all 64 submission requirements. Regardless of the overall standings, this is a truly impressive feat that has never been accomplished before this year by Overclock.net.

Right from the start of this year’s Team Cup competition, OCN took the lead. We were properly prepared, organized, and motivated! We held the number one position for nearly every day of the competition. During the last few hours of the competition, OCN lost the lead to Madshrimps Belgium OC Team. They showed a truly exceptional level of organization and held all of their best scores until the very end.

If you would like to have a closer look at our preparations and organization, check out the thread here: http://www.overclock.net/t/1633281/hwbot-team-cup-2017-team-organization/0_100

There were many participants behind the scenes. Some OCN members put in lots of time and energy helping the team achieve their goals. I don't dare list them all for fear of leaving somebody out, so they will go unnamed, but this competition would not have been a success without them. It should also be noted that there were many participants who helped out but even though their scores were overridden by higher scores, their efforts did not go unnoticed!

Below is list of the contributors and their contribution percentage (special thanks to @Noxinite for generating this data):

There were many high points of the competition. Records were broken and hundreds of liters of liquid nitrogen were consumed. In just about every single stage, OCN members used some form of extreme cooling in order to be competitive.

However, there is one result that really stands out as being truly exceptional. The world record for DDR2 frequency stood for 7 years at 900.4Mhz (1800.8 effective). During the first few days of Team Cup 2017, the user @Noxinite broke this world record. This was no lucky happenstance, this record breaking was the culmination of over a year of effort on his part, well done! The new record stands at 910.1 (1820.2 effective) and can be seen here: http://hwbot.org/submission/3589779_noxinite_memory_frequency_ddr2_sdram_910.1_mhz

The participating members of this competition have a chance to win an amazing prize. Officially, we have not heard anything about how the prizes will be handled, but I can certainly say that everyone involved will be included in the distribution process.

The prizes to be divided up are as follows:
  • Intel Core i7 7700K (tray)
  • GIGABYTE X299 Ultra Gaming
  • GIGABYTE Z270 Gaming 3
  • GIGABYTE Z270 Gaming 3
  • Seasonic 1000W Prime Titanium
  • Seasonic 850W Prime Gold
  • Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut 5.5g
  • Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut 5.5g
  • Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut 5.5g

I am proud to be a member on this team. Over the last three months I watched as the team dynamic changed. New friendships were forged and we had a little drama along the way, but at the end we all pulled together as a team. Everyone put in considerable effort and it paid off. We set out to achieve the previously unattainable 100% submission completion, and we did!! Thanks for making it the best Team Cup ever!

True, it certainly is special what we accomplished when looking at how organized some of the other teams are. I'm even happier to see us take the mem freq round as mem oc is something that has brought us closer on the chat/forums. Good job guys, anyone need an RX 570, kidding I got the 14 day no questions return policy smile.gif

Know a little late to the game...
This gave me more insight and learning on all the different elements that go into these competitions as a whole along with individual understanding. Now to build new system etc and get ready to do another competition with a great community.
Thank you OCN
