HDR & 4K - ASUS Strix 1080ti

Hi all,

I'm having a bit of trouble getting my TV to output HDR & 4K at the same time, I was wondering if anyone has any ideas. Here's a list of what I've tried, and what works and doesn't.

The PC is as per my signature, and the TV is a Samsung 49" KS8000 (UK model), and it's connected to a Denon x2300w receiver (both support HDMI 2.0a on every available port).

Behaviour

- The PC can output to the TV directly, or Denon Receiver at 1080p 60hz with HDR turned on.
- The PC can output to the TV directly, or Denon Receiver at 4K 60hz without HDR turned on
- As soon as HDR is turned on at 4K, on the TV the screen goes black and disconnects.
- Other HDR sources at 4K (i.e. my PS4 Pro are fine via the receiver or directly into the TV).

Things tried

1. Updated all drivers/BIOS where possible
2. Tried it originally with a GTX970, now with a GTX1080t. Both do the same.
2. Normally the TV is connected over a 10m cable with a HDMI 2.0 repeater for the length, which works fine minus HDR. I thought the length may be the culprit, but I tried it with a 0.5m cable directly into the TV and it still exhibits the same behaviour!

I understand Windows 10 R3 will do some stuff with HDR, I wonder if this might help?

I'm at a bit of a loss. I know technically HDR isn't the most amazing thing and support is currently minimal. However, when you own all the tech, it's quite nice to have it working as it should.

I wondered if anyone has a bright idea as to why this isn't working for me?

Thanks redface.gif

Make sure you are using 4:2:2 chroma subsampling on 4K HDR since HDMI 2.0 does not have enough bandwith for RGB 10 bit HDR.

Thanks - I'll give it a go tonight (I'm in the office at the mo). Presumably I still need to activate HDR in the Windows display settings?

Well that seemed to work - only over the short 1.5m cable. I couldn't get HDR on the 10m cable with the repeater frown.gif (Presumably because the repeater only supports HDMI 2.0, not 2.0a). So I bought a new one that does! Fingers crossed and thanks.
