[Verge] Google Pixel 2 and 2 XL announced with water resistance, ‘dual-pixel’ camera, and always-on display - Page 3

Was waiting for this to come out before I picked up a new phone, unfortunately for Google, this, imo, is completely inferior to the Note 8 in everyway, priced too high as well

I dunno about most but I have big hands and even phones with medium to small bezels cause me issues with parts of my hand touching the edges of the screen by accident... I also hate cases so I can't "fix" that issue that way... So for me all these new phones trying to eliminate the bezel as much as physically possible nust seems like a pain to me...

But thats why its good to have a large selection of designs... Sadly few companies want to give me my sturdy and thick phone that has a large battery and is able to have some sort of cooling solution that keeps my phone from getting too hot to want to use.

No matter what brand or what model phones I try they always start to get crazy hot when in use after 6 months to a year after you get it... At this point once this phone is paid off I'm done with smartphones unless someone finally offers a phone that meets my few simple needs...

Too many flagships get cutting edge chips that are usually pushed to their limits in the pursuit of "performance"... I just want a solid mid range chip tbat offers decent enough performance, has a proper amount of ram, runs cool and is sturdy and can take a big battery. I dont even want a crazy screen, 1080p is more than enough and I'd rather stay their just to save on needed gpu and cpu... A solid midrange performing phone with mid range screen and looooong battery life that runs cool.... Is that really so hard to make?!

Sorry I kinda launched into a rant there...

I second that, don't get me wrong, I love the look and feel of my S7 edge, but there's nothing worse than being in a rush, in a supermarket or something, needing to check your phone quickly one-handed and launching other things accidentally. Cases do make it better, but why have a bezeless phone to add your own custom bezel after? Definitely will consider a smaller phone next!

I'm quite drawn to the Pixel, the smaller one, might have to have a look at one close up and feel it in my hand to find out.

Once again Google decides that only a small group of countries should be able to purchase their phones..
In Norway, a store has to buy it from Germany with the added VAT and then add Norwegian VAT on top of that.

Ending up at a price around 1200-1350$ for the 64GB Pixel 2 XL.

Google, why the hell is it so hard to sell worldwide?

What kills this for me is the lack of a headphone jack. I really don't like this trend. I would prefer to be able to put a set of full sized cans on listening to music.

I'm not against spending money for a costly product, but the product must have something unique about it to justify the price.

Yes.

Bezels can make it less likely for the screen to crack when dropping the phone.

You will want to use a case for this phone.

I would prefer a thicker bezel with a more solid back than anything else. I wish that someone would make a "Rugged" phone with a user replaceable extended battery on a high end phone.

My dream phone
  • 6" screen 2560 x 1440 or higher (they seem to be going to aspect ratios of 2:1 or more right now)
  • Custom DAC (kind of like what LG has with their V30)
  • User replaceable battery that is extended
  • Use the extra thickness as well for better cooling
  • Durable phones (look at what Kyocera has made)
  • Stock android
  • Excellent camera (the thicker phone means that there is room for a better camera and sensor rather than a bulge)
  • Good quality dual stereo speakers
  • Dual SIM
  • Removable SD card

Sadly nobody makes a phone like this. This would be a thick phone.

The CAD dollar is a bit stronger than before, which may help somewhat, but yeah, it is still a ripoff.

No headphone jack and it's "from" 1079 AUD. Nope. Sticking with Hammerhead for now.

Ugly, no headphone jack, expensive, no wireless charging... why am I buying this again? In 3-4 months new phone with next gen snapdragon are coming out.

You're not. 🤣

But I am with the front facing speakers, awesome camera, and pure Google Android experience. Love my current pixel XL. The best "never slowing down after a year of use" experience. My note, note 2, note4, s7 all deemed to degrage over time. Awesome at first, then worse over time. Unless I flashed custom ROMs, which had its own quirks. The Pixel is the first phone I haven't rooted too. Didn't feel the need to.
