Looking for my next ATX gaming motherboard with the h370 chipset - not sure what to get.

Hello,

I currently have a GA-170x-G1 and need to build a similar system. I'm keeping my GA-170x-G1 but need a second PC.

I want an ATX long board

I need 2 integrated nics.

I want a creative audio chip for sound integrated. I realize there are other brands - I prefer Creative for gaming compatibility with some older games.

I want 4 * 16x slots - I currently have 2 8x cards (raid controller and network) and a 980ti video card. I may or may not add a second video card on my next system. Even if I don't it gives me a little flexibility as to my card placement having 4 16x slots.

I've had very bad luck with MSI in the past on a number of boards so I haven't bought any in several years - no idea if they have improved their quality. I'd give them another chance but when I called MSI about all the bad boards their tech department pretty much said I'd have to buy new ones so I don't think I'd ever buy another MSI.

It appears Gigabyte doesn't have a z370 with the features of the z170 - no idea if they will make one or not.

H370 isn't coming until January and there are no known boards. That said, you need a Z chipset for SLI anyway.

As the others have pointed out. There will be no additional 370 chipsets until Q1/Q2 2018. No current mobo match your criteria.

Closest current match is EVGA X299 Dark with unknown release date. 2 integrated NICs, integrated Creative soundchip, 5 X16 slots. But this is X299 and not 370. Second closest is Gigabyte's Z370 AORUS GAMING WIFI. 1 integrated NIC, integrated Creative soundchip, 3 X16 slots. Options for integrated Creative soundchips are limited.

You may have a long wait for a mobo to match your criteria.

Thanks for all the replies! OK, it seems I know less about my own motherboard than I thought. I currently have this and I'm able to take full advantage of my 10gbit nics and raid controller and my video card. I don't know how many PCIe lanes/channels I have currently. Can someone let me know? I get confused about the chipset / plx etc.

Your CPU has 16 PCI-e 3.0 lanes and your chipset has 20 PCI-e 3.0 lanes. How is this confusing?

My motherboard with PLX has 40 or 48 which from what I gather is like a switch so the question comes in how much latency does it add, does it really help or does the motherboard just allocation a portion of the 16x e.g. 8x if I have a 16x video card, an 8x nic and an 8x raid controller. And if it does allocate a portion would that bandwidth be enough.

It looks like the answer can be found here.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I'm guessing my best option is to work around my backup and try and hold out about 8 months for the z390 and hope they come out sooner along with a CPU with 40 lanes.

Yeah... I would not hold out for 40 CPU lanes on the mainstream platform. That's just not gonna happen anytime soon. There's no way it's happening next year, if it ever happens. If you really need that many lanes, you have to suck it up and go HEDT.
