Silver coil broke (?) and got stuck in pump

My pump started making a noise unexpectedly. It started out as a slight click and turned into a rattle. I'm still unsure what's causing it. The silver kill coil seems smaller than usual in the reservoir, so my current guess is that some of the coil broke off and entered the pump.

My pump/res is the EK-XRES 140 Revo D5. The coil was in the loop for about a year. As soon as I figured out that it was the pump, I shut down my computer and haven't turned it on again. What are the chances my pump is dead? I plan on draining the whole loop and taking out the pump for inspection.

Here is a picture. The silver coil seems significantly smaller than I remember:

Yeah, I need to drain the whole thing, but I don't have time for that at the moment. I hate it when this happens because it just eats away at me at the back of my mind until it's fixed.

Anyway, I pulled out the silver coil and it appears to be completely intact. The edges are completely smooth, so I've ruled it out. I just don't know what else it could be. The system has been closed for a year.
