Only took them 10 years to make a proper replacement? The 4.0 was poor and it died after that. IE3.0 was probably the last decent mouse M$ made. Sadly I don't expect M$ to use a proper sensor on this one it will be some office cheaper type.
If it comes with 3360 or better, resolves the IE3.0 issues, then I would buy it.
Slightly interesting but probably comes with inferior sensor to MLT04 just so they could sell it to DPI > 400 crowd so doubt anyone cares about it in the end.

Can you imagine if the sensor is actually some custom 3360 or better and they come out saying: " We know the MLT04 was amazing, it had high fps and a raw feel that everyone "in the know" revered. We have now perfected this newest sensor to be a worthy successor. We know that dpi higher than 3200 is pointless (obviously, duh) so we cut all the bs and here it is, the best mouse ever - Your friends at Microsoft"

On one hand I feel like Microsoft knows that the only people who still care about the IME3.0 are the gamers who'd want a good sensor, but on the other hand, Microsoft.
You think the older one was lighter? Nah, it wasn't, did it bother people who used it, not really that much if at all, the grip is more important, weight comes aftewards.
Microsoft BlueTrack, oh well probably yet another crap sensor as all their other mice.
The good thing is, they are probably making it in China and someone will reuse the mold and put in different internals, sell it on gray market.
Likely the weight with cable. But sensor means it's not worth a damn anyway.
