Well AMD has more fluent and vivid colors by default it takes a lot of tweaking to get Nvidia looking as good. But it's not something you will notice unless you are using the same display with both an AMD card and an Nvidia card. It's been discussed many of times here on the forums. I gave up on trying to tweak it. I just use my Nvidia card fps games and my AMD card for vivid single player games and editing stuff.

That's the 1st time I've seen such a comparison in years. As has been mentioned in the past this was talked about several times a few years back.

Impossible to see any relevant subtle differences from recorded video that has been captured differently then transcoded at least twice.

Nvidia has some setting in their Control Panel which reduce IQ for performance. Also different color setting can make one seem better than the other. I use both Fury X and 1080 Ti and its hard to tell the apart. With both card I have to play with color setting in their settings.

Edit: I actually have the setup to connect both my system with one screen and see them at the same time. Probably will do it next week after exams.

This really makes me wish I had done some comparison recording in my 670>670 sli>280X>280X Crossfire>970 days. (Yes, 280X Crossfire sucked harder than an Oreck XL on a tile floor).

Edit-I've seen threads over the years that referenced superior IQ with AMD. I am inclined to believe those claims.

Thought it was common knowledge since the difference really became apparent with NV 6XX vs AMD 7XXX back with BFBC2 comparisons.
Its just driver settings at the end of the day. You could tweak them so they both looked the same.
post #19 of 21
Yea common knowledge 7 years ago. Although, I wouldn't go and say "AMD has better IQ or colors etc." IMO this lies more in line with Ektachrome vs Fujichrome in photography. Both are different but neither is better than the other. Anyway this is interesting if it still stands true. Any recent hard info/tests on the subject? As in not weightless posts like this;

Please do, with both cards' driver settings at default. Would very much like to see how that turns out thumb.gif

I'm using the same display with my 1080 Ti that I was with my 290X CFX and my Fury Nitro.

Same monitor ICC profile and highest quality settings in both drivers and the only difference I can see is that NVIDIA clamps texture LOD bias with AF enabled which helps with texture shimmering, while AMD seems to omit this in favor of crisper distant textures in static scenes.

There may well be some minor differences in colors, but nothing that I'd be able to notice without having both parts installed and flipping between similar scenes on the same monitor.
