Wow. I'm an idiot.

Thread Starter
This whole time I've been trying to overclock my cpu with prime 95, and banging my head against the wall because I was using an outdated version, that would keep crashing, run super high temps, and could barely stabilize 3.95ghz. Didn't realize they updated p95 for Ryzen. My VRM temps are WAAAAAY lower now, and my required voltage to maintain stability has been reduced DRASTICALLY.

Dare I say I've won the silicon lottery after all. Currently 4.0ghz stable at 1.368 vcore peak, before I could only dream of this.

I use software that actually crashes more often than most bench software does. Haven't checked with anything else besides that, p95, and aida64.

But I am happy to report that it looks like I can get my tr 1950x up to 4.05ghz (albiet 1.4vcore at peak) but I will likely settle for 4.025ghz, for around 1.38vcore at peak.

Max temp is 65c

Yeah, I would also like to know the prior version and latter version of prime95 that you were using

Ahh. I have 2810 and it works fine. This is why I don't like P95 so much. Most versions do not play nice with AMD.

I only use the latest version as the later versions weed out instabilites quicker and are more effective than the older versions

I seen peeps sticking to older versions as they dont like the results when using newer versions, lol

Im using 29.3.1.0 BTW

Will do a like for like comparison between 28.10 and 29.3.1 and post thermals from both

smile.gif

** EDIT **
Quick preliminary, thermals are 3C higher and 20W+ more with 28.10 compared to 29.3.1,

all my long runs were done with custom 14000mb FFT lengths on defaults, something that I felt was a more realistic workload

Will post findings from 2hr+ runs .....................
