I had a short in the power pad yesterday, and now the pc won't power on.
I tried jumping the psu and that works fine, all fans and pumps are running, and the old spin discs starts. When the main power is connected to the motherboard the rgb, onboard start button and clear cmos lights up, but when i try to power on the psu clicks and then instantly shuts down.
Is it fair to assume the motherboard has died ? I don't have any chance to test any of the other components other then getting a new motherboard. Can i assume the cpu died with it ?
I don't see anyhting fried, and nothing smells wrong
Specs are
Asus Maximus IX Hero
7700k
16gb dominator ram
EVGA 1300G2 psu
2x samsung 840 250gb ssd's
2x WD Velociraptor 160gb

The power wasn't plugged completely in, kicked the power pad and it made some cracking noises and the pc shut down. Replaced the power pad with another one for now.
Is it possible it's the psu ? That if fails under load, since 2 pumps and 9 fans doesn't draw that much.

Or perhaps borrow one from a friend? The things you have tested are only 12V but your PSU may have multiple 12V rails as well as supplying 5V and 3.3V, within the UEFI of your board there is also a power protection setting, is that enabled or disabled? Have tried plugging in the PSU directly to a wall socket?
I managed to enter bios and see that it didn't recognize anything installed in the pci lanes. Booted to windows fine, then suddenly it went black while typing this reply. Suspected the dp cable to be the issue, but changing the cable didn't work.
But it's safe to assume the gpu is dead ? I only have the pg278q monitor atm, so can't check on other connections. The debug led shows A0, so that indicates it's working as it should.

i'm positive it sits as it should. Sometimes i get the rog splash screen to come on for a second with the igpu then it says no signal and the monitor shuts down.
1. Check a different monitor with the GPU and the iGPU.
2. Try to see if you can find a CPU and check if that helps.
3. Try to see if it works with a different GPU.
Well, this is half embarrasing i guess. I bought a new DP cable at the store when i got the new gpu, just to be sure. I told the guy behind the counter it needs to support 1440p at 144hz, wich he assured me it did. Turns out he was wrong, switched back to the old dp cable and i'm up and running again.

I was thinking that it was the DP cable but you did say you had a new one so didn't give it much more thought, anyway good to hear you got it sorted
