Pump flow

Hello there, im in the process of overclocking my new cpu, but before that i was trying to establish my loop flow without a flow meter. My pumps are regulated with rpm (4800 rpm = max). My cpu loop has one pump rated at 23W for 12v with 3.7m head and max flow of 1500lh.

The loop includes: 1x ek 360mm xe = 1 delta psi at 2 gpm.
1x ek 240mm xe = 0.87 delta psi at 2 gpm
1x cuplex kryos next = 3.5 delta psi at 2gpm
About 8 restritive fittings

How can i approximate the loop flow with pump rpm?

You can try and find documented pressures drops across your components add them up. Then try to calculate that in to flow loss. But at best it’s still are appropriate guess. How much head pressure does your pump provide.

Pressure drop and pump head (3.7m = 12.14 feet) is stated above. What im wondering is, do you just add them together or start at max psi then do a % drop

Using the data I already have, I can estimate the pressure drop at 5.9 PSI for 2GPM, 3.67PSI for 1.5GPM and 2PSI at 1.0GPM. I also know that my pump has a maximum head of 3.7m (12.14ft) and that glycol has a SG of 1.125 (considering its a mix, il put it in-between at 1.0625).

P = 0.433 x 12.14ft x 1.0625 = 5.585 maximum PSI which means the pump at its max speed of 4800 rpm can provide 5.585 PSI which is enough to push 1.5GPM but not 2GPM. Now I just need to find a way to extrapolate this data to guess the RPM at which the pump provides 3.67 PSI.

Firstly loop flow is independent of RPM, but I assume you mean power.

For a simple CPU block and rad loop you can just use the restriction data from the CPU block and reduce it a little from there. The type of pump top you have has an impact too at higher flow rates.

Using your numbers roughly overlaid on an EK D5 top chart you could expect around 6LPM or 1.5Gpm at most and likely a little less. If you are using a different D5 top it may be less again.

5.85 PSI for a D5 pump is really the max they they can generate at zero flow.At 1Gpm its more like 5psi, 1.5GPM - 4.5psi and 2Gpm about 4psi. Thats with an ideal pump top. other tops will produce lower numbers and significantly lower.

The nature of restriction and the equipment we use really keeps the majority of loops at between 4 and 6Lpm max flow.
