PC SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum

GPU: NVIDIA GTX 770 4GB/AMD Radeon R9 290 4GB or better

So, the R9 290 which grew to match the gtx 780ti overtime, is paired with the gtx770 in those minimum requeriments.

This doesn't bode well.

I find the new Vulkan API a bit like the old 3DFX Glide API back when 3DFX was still around. Their cards ran like trash on OpenGL and the current DX-whatever it was at, 5 I think? (lol) But on their own API, the cards were quite comparable to the competition.

Though I find it hilarious how the recommended specs for the CPUs have nothing to do with Ryzen. It's like the Devs are THAT out of touch with things... tongue.gif

What are you worried about when you say doesn't bode well?

Are you inferring AMD's 290 will be on par with a 770? I doubt it, but in the grand scheme of things (looking back in time) the whole generation 780ti/770/r290 may all be in the same bracket anyway, like +/- 3-4 fps. But that's just a guess as to why they're bother there as minimum.

I think the real driver is the 4GB of VRAM.

This.

The 780 Ti was killed by 3GB compared to the 4GB in the 290/290x. The 290(x) fight on because that extra GB does help still.

I started hitting issues with 3GB on my 780 Ti a little over a year ago, thus my move to the 980 Ti.

Just that one damn GB less sent it all to an early grave.

For real though. I just retired mine back in August because it was finally starting to die. I was still maxing pretty much everything out @ 1080p 60+fps. That card aged so freaking well. It ran The New Order just fine.

The 290 and 290X are legends by right.

I have said it several times before, I am going to say it again....

My brothers 290X is still going strong......I had to replace my 780 Ti about a year ago now. At 1440P you just couldn't feed the GPU fast enough with 3GB of VRAM, it needed more! It was at the point VRAM usage was just constantly pegged, and the GPU was choking.

Doubt the devs spent a lot of time testing for various PC specs.

FX-8350 in Minimum and FX-9370 for Recommended - saw that a lot in the past, barely any difference between between the two but often loosing hard to 'equivalent' i7.

290 and 470 don't differ as much, as mentioned here before. Maybe devs did more with Vulkan here for 470 to pull away, but i am sceptical about that.

Also, on PC Gamer it is mentioned that Minimum specs are for 720p and 60 fps at low settings and Recommended specs for 1080p and 60 fps at high settings - total nonsense, in my opinion.

Those specs seem reasonable to me. Why would you say they're 'total nonsense'?
