Telltale Games has let go of 90 staff members, about 25 percent of its total workforce, as GamesIndustry.biz first reported. The game publisher and studio is famous for its episodic, story-focused games based on hit franchises like The Walking Dead, Batman, and Guardians of the Galaxy.

“Our industry has shifted in tremendous ways over the past few years,” said Telltale Games chief executive officer Pete Hawley in a statement shared by GamesIndustry.biz. “The realities of the environment we face moving forward demand we evolve, as well, reorienting our organization with a focus on delivering fewer, better games with a smaller team.”

I wonder if all of them are related to the engine, since they have been (apparently) using the same engine over and over again with minor tweaks at best between each release.

Walking Dead Season 1 was by FAR the best game they did. Only two games have managed to make me feel emotionally crushed at the end, and that was one of them. I felt so empty for weeks after finishing it because it was so powerful. The other game was Life is Strange, which I personally feel is better than any game Telltale has made.

After TWD S1, they went and spread all their staff onto other projects in order to release more games. They turned into a quantity over quality company. Not to mention the episodes became shorter and shorter. I'm not surprised to see this.

What could have been if they kept the same team on Walking Dead S2/S3.... mad.gif

The Wolf Among Us was also a nice game. I never finished WD1 frown.gif Left it in episode 2 I believe.

On a side not Double Fine and Insomniac Games are offering jobs to the ex employees.

The Wolf Among Us is by far, hands down, the best game they've ever made. And it's not even close. Hope this doesn't delay the sequel.

I stopped supporting them with Wolf Among Us, blowing smoke up our butts with promises of 1 episode a month, waited 6 months it felt like for I think episode 3 to come out all the mean while they started up Borderlands and I think Game of Thrones. So you have staff to work on new games but can't give us the episodes we paid for? That episodic crap can burn for all I care, same with the company.

You're just salty because Clementine kept getting older. What happened to my sweet pea!

Dirty Lee misses his sweet PEE too!

Seem like no loss, never liked any book/movie/series/comics remakes as a game. Sucks for the people losing job sure but otherwise their products... nothing would change if they weren't launched.

Not a good occurrence as people lost their jobs but I never cared for Telltale and their products.

WAU had already released all of its episodes before the first episode of Borderlands ever came out.
