I9-7900X purchase

Thread Starter
I have an ASRock X299 Taichi waiting for me to pick up. Was looking at one of your I9-7900X CPU's. The 4.5ghz delidded version.
I'm only planning on overclocking it to 4.2 - 4.3ghz. It's almost summer here and I don't want to push it to the edge.

Couple of questions though..

My configuration will be

  • X299 Taichi mobo
  • G.Skill F4-3200C16Q-32GTZ DDR4
  • Thermaltake Water 3.0 360mm or Kraken X62 cooler (Recommendations?)
  • ASUS GTX 1080 Strix
  • Corsair HX1200i PSU

I notice on the website the XE is QVL'd, but the only difference I can see in the specs is the XE is missing the APP Charger and I/O Shield and costs $60 more... Is there something meaningful in the difference between the XE and standard Taichi that's not apparent on the ASRock website?

I'd also like to upgrade my memory to a higher speed/better latency kit... Maybe next year. This mobo and CPU is going to break the bank this year.

All prices on the website are in USD. The Australian dollar is trading at 0.7650+ at present. But a lot of banks, and paypal screw people and use significantly lower rates, making as much as $100 difference on the price. What exchange rate conversion value do you use?

thanks for your help
