[VentureBeat] Electronic Arts to acquire Titanfall maker Respawn Entertainment for as much as $455 Million - Page 3

i admit R6 Siege can get really intense...that's probably the only fps worth playing right now
i also haven't tried BFOne yet.
Doom felt archaic
i dont know what I was thinking getting Overwatch when I don't like campy stuff like TF2
don't have the patience for games like DayZ so I know i probably don't have what it takes to try puBG....may be i'll consider it in its final release form
my most beloved franchise, CS, has turned into a gambling front right before my eyes

these days i'm decompressing by just playing short spurts of mickey mouse tings like super mario haha

So EA owns Battlefield, Battlefront and Titanfall..

Imagine a MMOFPS game where a sith lord is fighting with a heavy machine gunner squad in BF while a Titan comes crushing from the sky to defeat all of them. Turns out the Titan is piloted by Han Solo and Boba Fett trying to take down the Titan with a Mamooth Tank from BF1. tongue.gif

I would bet there are thousands of kids and teens like him throwing money at the game with these microtransactions and making quite a lot of money for Respawn.

Just want to add something here, you're not buying Titans, just skins for them. Anything that you buy in TF2 is purely cosmetic.

Although to be fair, they are really nice looking cosmetics, and I'm guilty of picking up a couple for the titans I use the most.

They're not going to respawn from this death. wink.gif

You know.... That actually sounds pretty awesome! I'd be willing to give that a shot.

At the end of the day they are here to make money, I feel like it is just as much the responsibility of the studio to meet and agree with their contractual deadline and sometimes they dont make the cut and they suffer because of it. EA used to be one of the best publishers of all time. Some of my favorite games were made by studios owned by EA, and I am sure some of yours too. Same goes to Ubisoft. I wonder where we should draw the line. If we should stop hating on EA and start looking to the studios that take on massive projects and cant make the cut. EA is just the one who cuts the checks and licenses the IP's, they don't have anything to do with the actual making of games. I know this is a little off topic but i know the thread will eventually devolve into "WELP EA SUCKS THEY RUIN EVERYTHING LETS HATE THEM".

I loved Titanfall, it was one of the only shooters I played regularly on my PS4. It was well balanced and it felt very rewarding thanking down titans on foot. I hope they continue to make good shooters.

EA isn't as bad in terms of deadlines as they used to be, although don't get me wrong they did rush some games out in the past, the problem is that they aggressively buy popular IP and then exert extreme influence in the development of sequels.

In the past that meant rushing out lower quality iterations of the original games, or forcing online features into traditionally single-player games to curb piracy, but now it means redesigning the games to ensure they can be monetised with DLC and in-game purchases.

This happens to the extent that they end up issuing edicts that all games must be online, and be designed in a way that compliments micro-transactions and subsequent DLC (which can usually be developed with minimal effort and sold for a reasonable fraction of the base game's price).

Studios simply "not making the cut" isn't really a fair assessment, previously that was due to EA making stupid demands like ordering Bullfrog to release a game in six weeks when none were near completion, these days they are slightly more lenient in terms of deadlines* but still exert their influence in other areas usually to the detriment of the IP they purchased.

*Although them forcing BF4 to release in time to compete with COD does ring a bell, despite it having numerous client and server crashing bugs on release let alone the issues with audio/clipping etc.

Titanfall 2 is a fantastic game. I'll bet EA will ruin the next one.

TitanFall 1 was rumoured to have sold 10 million copies in the first 12 months. Even if they only retailed for $30, that's 300Mil right there. Then they released TF2, which supposedly sold aropund 5 million copies, so anther 150Mil.

That's just 2 games, both of which were never really going to challenge CoD due to usings mechs - yet still managed to mae several hundred million between them.

Also remember, the bains atRespawn are the guys who brought you all the best CoD releases and made Activision billions, so it makes a lot of sense for EA to lock them in for a few hundredmill now, before whatever their next releases is goes large and the value of Respawn increases further.

It is so sad that Titanfall 2 didn't sell. It was miles ahead of the first game and really did give COD a run for it's money in my opinion. Also the single player campaign wrecked anything from COD.
