Ok... So who needs a 50-66TB server?? - Page 4

I'm curious about GPU streaming, does it really work well? I am wondering whether it's worth getting an AMD GPU instead of nVidia as AMD don't place a 2 stream artificial limit in their drivers (buy Tesla!).

As all GPU's made in the past few years can decode H.264 and newer ones can also decode H.265 I wonder whether it's necessary to get a GPU as powerful as the 1050Ti or whether a lower end one will work for a few streams.

Edit: I was too enthusiastic in my assessment:

Here’s a quick rundown of well-known hardware that includes dedicated HEVC decoding blocks, which definitely support efficient HEVC playback:

  • Intel 6th-generation ‘Skylake’ Core processors or newer
  • AMD 6th-generation ‘Carizzo’ APUs or newer
  • AMD ‘Fiji’ GPUs (Radeon R9 Fury/Fury X/Nano) or newer
  • Nvidia GM206 GPUs (GeForce GTX 960/950) or newer
  • Other Nvidia GeForce GTX 900 series GPUs have partial HEVC hardware decoding support
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 805/615/410/208 SoCs or newer. Support ranges from 720p decoding on low-end parts to 4K playback on high-end parts.
  • Nvidia Tegra X1 SoCs or newer
  • Samsung Exynos 5 Octa 5430 SoCs or newer
  • Apple A8 SoCs or newer
  • Some MediaTek SoCs from mid-2014 onwards

Disappointing.

if OP isnt' running ReFS, then there's no way he'd know if he had/has data corruption. He's also not using ECC RAM, so good luck with that!

He could do a full drive check with data checkig enabled, using windows built in thing.

Running this kind of madness, you should run it in a virtual server and if its broken, you can just reload that last good config and be good to go thumb.gif

not a bad idea but it's up and running now, with Acronis running a continuous backup so if anything goes awash I will just restore that.

it's up, working and I don't want to screw with it now lol
