What to expect from 3570k + GTX1060

Greetings! Just discovered this forum and it`s amazing! Still a noob here, but I feel like I learned a great deal about OC already.

I came back to Canada recently and will be rebuilding a computer with parts I bought in 2012...

My question is very similar to this post, but I didn`t want to highjack it. I think it`s still decent, but wonder what I can expect from this:

Intel Core i5 3570K @3.4Ghz (stock)
MSI GeForce GTX 460 Fermi Cyclone OC (w/ broken fan)
Corsair Vengeance 16GB 2X8GB DDR3-1600 CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10
Asus P8Z77-V Lk
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
Antec Earthwatt 500W

I have a limited budget and the plan would be to only buy a GTX 1060 (not sure 3 or 6 Go yet) and possibly a SSD as the other 2 HDD are dead. The goal is to have it as a gaming rig for at least 2-3 years. I`m ok with playing at medium settings, when needed.

I wonder:

1. Would the CPU stock clock (3.4) bottleneck a 1060?
2. OCing to 4.3 - 4.4 seems reasonable, what kind of improvement could I expect from that? (speaking mostly in terms of FPS in AAA games)
3. Should I OC the RAM as well if I do so?
4. I assume the Power Supply would still be up to it, right?

(edit: I`ve read that I can save 10-25° by delidding the CPU, but I`m not quite sure I`m confident to do that just yet)

Many thanks!

This setup is really good for 1080p gaming. You should definitely overclock because it's free performance. Overclocking your RAM won't make much of a difference, but you can try to eke out as much additional performance if you want.

1. Nope it should not, not at 1080p at least
2. Expect a small handfull of fps at best
3. yes, why not ?
4. Yes that's plenty of power for this rig

Overclock the CPU and you'll be alright.

I have the same CPU, Heatsink and a GTX 1060 3GB, gaming @ 2560x1080. If you get the 3GB you will have to drop textures from HIGH to ULTRA in some games. You should be able to get to 4.2ghz minimum.

There are 4 Antec Earthwatts models rated at 500 watt so which of the 4 is it?

One is 80 plus white rated and has two 12v rails rated at 17 amps each the next one is also 80 plus white rated but the two 12v rails are rated for 22 amps each
If you have one of those two you should replace it as they are really old

The next two models are 80 plus bronze rated and one has two 12v rail each rated for 22 amps where the other has two 32 amp 12v rails
Those two are not fantastic either but they are not bad either and they are much newer then the two older ones

Thanks for the quick replies! I`m glad to hear that.

The PSU is the one that came with the Sonata III (EA-500D Green). I think it`s 80 plus bronze, but not sure.

Can a defective PSU cause problems to hardware or the computer would just stop working? Would it be wise to replace it by precaution?

As far as i know what you have is middle of the road its not great but its not bad either
Its also one of the newer ones

You might be able to overclock a little bit higher by replacing it but then again it might make no difference
