Soundcard for gaming STX vs Phoebus vs TiHD

Hi everyone!

I'm stuck with this question.

I'm going to buy one of theese headphones:

beyerdynamics dt 770 \ 990 (32ohm)
audio-technica ath-a700x
audio-technica ATH-WS1100iS
audio-technica mdr-1a
audio-technica msr7
Sennheiser HD 598

And I'm looking for soundcard that could be perfect for gaming.

Regarding to reviews about latest driver, there are no any issues and everything shouldd work fine.

I've heard that STX isn't for gaming thus it's more for audiophiles that want clear true sound and sound in games will be too faded, is it true?

So which is better for my situation?

Thanks for replies

I would avoid xonar's simply because of the screeching siren bug.. other than that.. the so called "faded" thing is retarded and you should ignore whoever told you this.
I used to have STX and I'm a very competitive player myself. I sold it because of said bug.

Used or new it don't matter... its a hit or miss it might happen or it might not happen at all.

Phoebus driver support has already completely stopped, it's pretty much a dead card. No unofficial drivers.

STX has banshee wail bug on on certain hardware setups, most commonly on Windows 10.

Cause is the C-media chipset, which STX also shares with Xonar D1/DX cards. No known fix available.

Regarding to what you wrote, as i understand it is better to buy TiHD ?

Or maybe there are any other spin cards for that price worth buying?

If you decide to go with the beyerdynamics I would recommend the DT 880s as the 990s aren't very good for gaming. Unless you need better sound isolation then the 770s are better.

I don't recommend any sound cards. I would recommend an external DAC.

Would be also nice to know if you want headphones just for gaming. I own the audio-technica msr7 and they are for me the best choice comparing all the listed audio technica and beyerdynamics headphones...

And the sound isolation is also very good when you like it LOUD and dont want to disturb your surroundings....

And regarding the sound card a simmilar discusion where Here and Here

Edit: The best way to choose headphones is to try them. Everyone has his own preferences, so just go to an shop where you can try them all and compare... This way will be your choice waterproof for you wink.gif

I agree with what ozlay posted... DAC or DAC/AMP
Some DAC's dont even need drivers just plug'n'play. Another point is portability.. you can take the DAC with you stick it on a laptop and enjoy music or light gaming, you can't do that with PCIe soundcard

Thank you, I've tested headphones, I liked dt 770, dt 880 and ath-ad900x

Are external dac expensive?
