besides that. the thing with kaby/coffee lake is the fact that intel cheaped out on the tim between die and ihs. so delidding is best option if you like cooler temperature.

so throw an extra 80 ish dollars ontop of it. for a delid tool. some liquid ultra tim, and some gasket maker to relid. unless you like your warranty smile.gif

I'm not "in the know" enough to delid. So the Kaby runs hotter?

Yeah starts running pretty warm at 4.8ghz and past that with the needed voltage jump. You can buy that Delid tool or can kinda try to redneck it maybe pop it off and hope don't mess it up lol

It\s not so much that just a a lot of those and usual tims seem to do better on a copper Base...a lot more stuff that is not that now and want to proceed with the the Nickel/plated bases...

Keep the 2500K till it dies if staying 1080P and GTX 1050. It should even handle a 1060 for WoW. This coming from a current owner of a 1050, Sandy, and R5 1600. Wait for next Ryzen and intel cpu. DDR4 is so expensive. Word is DDR5 is coming next year and is twice as fast.

It"s not that expensive..a lot of affordable kits, well below $200, that have a little headroom and that's fine and ok. if they'd make some without stupid tall spreaders would be even better. That geil kit impressed with, good stuff man.

I will have to build something in the near future. Like I said, this one is getting passed down so I must replace it.

ok so I've been doing a lot of reading and I have an idea:

Instead of me passing my son the 2500k rig, what if I kept it and just built him a Pentium g4600 rig?
I sold his core2 rig (cpu, ram, mobo) for $200. thumb.gif
I can purchase a G4600 with mobo and 1 8gb stick for $222. I can pair it with a gtx1050 and he should be good right?
That would buy me some time to see how Coffee Lake pans out and then make a decision from there. I could always then give him the 2500k rig or use either of them for a HTPC build. The only game we play is World of Warcraft and other than that he just watches youtube and stuff.

What do you guys think of that? Worth messing with?

Edit: if not a g4600 build, I could do a ryzen 3 1200 build for a little bit more $$ about $40ish to be exact
