Best Fans to use with a Radiator?

post #1 of 7
Thread Starter
Hello,

I'm currently looking into Water Cooling my Second Rig, and I'd like to get some opinions from others based on their experience. This of course would be in regards to the fans that you would use on your Radiators. I have read that Noctua Classics (NF-F12) are probably the best in terms of both cooling and noise. I have also seen mention of Scythe's Gentle Typhoons, Corsiar's ML series, be quiet! Silent Wings 3, EK-Vardar series, and the Noctua Industrial series. I'd like to get an idea on what would be best for me to use within this new build, but first, let me provide some background information on what I've dealt with in the past to help better assist you when recommending fans.

My First Water Cooled build consisted of;

2x - AlphaCool NexXxous UT60, 420mm Radiators
12x - 140mm bgears b-Blaster fans (Push/Pull configuration)

Back when I was researching for that build, I had seen bgears b-Blaster fans mentioned very often, and when comparing their price for performance, it was a no brainer. Needless to say, that system sounds like a small fighter jet taking off, but to be honest, after being around it so long, it's just something that I've gotten used to, and it doesn't bother me. Now when it comes to the new build, I'm planning on going with thinner radiators (either 30mm or 45mm), and the amount of noise generated by the fans won't bother me much, however if I could do something along the lines of a low to medium hum/noise, that would be perfect.

So, based on that information, which fans do you think would get the job done the best, or what would you recommend based on either your current build, or past experience? The new Water Cooling build is going to consist of 2, 360mm Radiators, and the components being cooled are; CPU/Motherboard (Monoblock; Core i7-6700K), GPUs (2x - GTX 1080s), and I might potentially add my RAM Kit to the listing (not entirely sure because I've read that Water Cooling RAM is more of an Aesthetic add on, and doesn't really have a major impact on the system).

Thanks for your time, and I'm looking forward to hearing what everyone has to say based on their experience or research on this topic.

Thanks again,

Gentle Typhoon AP14. AP15 if you don't mind a little more noise.

The Gentle Typhoons are certainly a good choice if you can get hold of them however I've not seen them at any reputable retailer for years (in the UK/EU).
Everywhere has them marked End of Life except for an Amazon seller which has AP-15's for same price as the Noctua NF-F12.

If you cant get hold of Gentle Typhoons, EK's own Vardar fans or the Noctua NF-F12's are both excellent for radiators.

GT AP15's should be plenty with that much rad space.
I run them 900 - 1000 rpm for every day usage and 1600 when stressing. (1800x @ 3925MHz see rig sig)
I did run them at 1800 rpm on my FX 9590 @ 5112MHz for 4 yrs when stressing but same low speed for every day (also in rig sig).
