Massive drop in temps after setting VCC PLL OC manually

My core temperature dropped massively, both idle and load, by changing one setting in the bios. VCCPLL OC under CPU Voltages. It made more difference than any other setting.

Temps dropped from absolute max of 84C load to 66C in Realbench stress test.

VCC PLL OC was set to Auto on my board (Gigabyte z170x Designare) and I managed to set this at 1.16v which is the lowest I could set to boot into Windows. All OC guides say that tweaking PLL is only for extreme overclocking, e.g. LN2, but it appears that there are real benefits to changing this setting.

Most any BIOS will default to way to much voltage whether overclocking or not..

That's true for a lot of voltage settings. The mb manufacturers do this so they are stable in as many cases as possible but for a lot of those cases they can be stable on less voltage.
The thing that is surprising here is regarding heat, changing this one setting for me makes more difference than going from 1.18 Vcore stock clocks to 1.32 Vcore 4.7GHz overclock. The difference in heat as reported by the thermal sensors is insane.

I wonder if more people with Intel chips have similar experiences.
